Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 launched in advanced access last week for those who pre-ordered the game, and was immediately review bombed after players discovered that it quietly installs Epic Games' online service for crossplay purposes. In mere hours, it dropped to 'Mixed' on Steam with over 1,000 negative reviews logged.
This isn't a Ubisoft Connect or Origin scenario — you aren't downloading Epic Games Store or a second launcher, just an online tool.
Thankfully, that 'Mixed' score was short-lived, as the reactionary outrage was immediately met with positive reviews, bringing the long-awaited Space Marine 2 up to 'Very Positive' just in time for its launch today.
As of writing, 80 percent of the over 30,000 reviews are positive, likening the experience to classic Gears of War, labelling it one of the best looking Warhammer games of all-time, and singing its campaign's praises.
Another common thread throughout many of the positive reviews is that Space Marine 2 is a great jumping on point for newcomers, with many writing that this is their first taste of Warhammer's grimdark sci-fi universe and that they are having a blast cutting up Tyranids with a chainsword for the Greater Good....
