Shadowrun and BattleTech designer Jordan Weisman has announced Sea of Legends, a new open-world CRPG based on the tabletop game of the same name, and it's getting a Kickstarter campaign very soon.
According to a press release, Sea of Legends is essentially "a new Sid Meier's Pirates game with the tactics and narrative of Shadowrun and Slay the Spire's deckbuilding mechanics". Now there's an elevator pitch for the ages.
You'll play as a pirate who must build their reputation "from scallywag to pirate king" in a Caribbean contested not only by political factions, but also by "the denizens of the deep, the undead, and worse".
The dev team on Sea of Legends consists not only of Weisman, but also, appropriately enough, of several other people who might be described as legends in their own right.
They include Shadowrun: Dragonfall lead writer Andrew McIntosh, Darkest Dungeon narrative designer Jeffery Campbell, and Skull & Bones senior concept artist Kate Cruz, plus Weisman himself, of course.
Weisman and his team say you'll be plundering ships, raiding towns, discovering treasure, and vanquishing your nemeses on this pirate adventure. Perhaps Sea of Legends can provide the piratical fantasy Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire didn't quite manage to offer....
