Following the latest PlayStation 5 firmware update, Final Fantasy 16 players have run into some major, game-breaking bugs that are completely ruining the experience.
Square Enix has addressed and apologised for the problem on Twitter, confirming that it's working alongside Sony to remedy the issue.
There's no timeline yet, but it did ask players to "wait for further information", so keep an eye on its socials if you want to know when things will be back to normal — in the meantime, Clive Rosefield has to suffer a very strange lightshow.
One look at social media and you'll see countless reports of visual hiccups and crashes plaguing fans right now. One very distracting issue is major flickering and distortions while the skybox rapidly disappears and reappears, followed by game-breaking freezes. But hey, at least the music is calming.
Others, like Reddit user Logan-Lance, claim that their PS5 turned off completely while playing the game after the software update. Others in the comments corroborated this, saying that they too had run into a "complete hard shutdown after a cutscene", which required them to rebuild the database and repair their external HDD.
Cutscenes aren't immune to this problem, either....
