Assassin's Creed Shadows' Map Will Be On The Scale Of Origins

Assassin's Creed Shadows will be around the "play size" of Assassin's Creed Origins according to Shadows' art director Thierry Danserau (thanks GamesRadar+).

Danserau revealed that Shadows is going to fall between the sprawling world of Valhalla and the more compact experience of Mirage in terms of scale, leaving it at approximately the size of Origins.

Shadows is also going to have a "much more realistic scale ratio compared to the previous titles" as the team wanted to portray Japan's mountainous landscape accurately. These adaptations required significant internal work on the Anvil engine to make possible, according to Danserau.

"This time around was difficult, because we knew it was a highly anticipated setting, and we knew expectations were very high," Danserau said. "So we pushed ourselves, [and said] 'Okay, let's do something very ambitious'. So we needed that very strong support from the Anvil team because they're working end to end with us making sure we have the support we need."

It's worth noting that Ubisoft has not adapted the entirety of Japan, just the regions where the famous Japanese conqueror Oda Nobunaga focused his efforts, i.e. the largest Japanese island of Honshu. This will include the cities of Osaka, Kyoto...
