As The Sims 4 community reels from the revelation that a fifth mainline game isn't a priority for EA, players may be even more disappointed to see early images of the long-awaited Project Rene. Announced several years ago, the now infamous Project Rene took on a larger meaning for Sims fans as most believed it to be the franchise's next major step. Unfortunately, that no longer appears to be the case as the mysterious game reportedly underwent a shift in its development, resulting in a product that may not live up to the hype.
Over on X (formerly Twitter), LikeLifeSim shared a handful of screenshots of Project Rene and the game doesn't look like what many expected. Fans have been quick to criticize its seemingly smaller scope, limited gameplay, weaker visuals, and what appear to be microtransaction options. While it's currently unconfirmed what platforms Project Rene is intended for, the community now believes EA wants to ship it as a free-to-play mobile experience; the screenshots suggest this approach but nothing has been confirmed at the time of writing.
As with all leaks, it's worth taking the screenshots with a grain of salt until Maxis or EA releases...
