Developer Sandlot and publisher D3Publisher have announced that you'll no longer need to sign into an Epic Games account if you want to play Earth Defense Force 6 online via Steam.

In an announcement on Steam, the two studios say that you can now play online missions in Earth Defense Force 6 without signing into your Epic account if you wish.

Sandlot and D3Publisher also provide a link to Epic's page about unlinking your Epic account from services like Steam, so if you want to go full scorched earth and get rid of your Epic credentials from Steam altogether, that's how you go about doing so.

Earth Defense Force 6's requirement that players use an Epic account if they wanted to play online on Steam has been the source of some consternation among the game's player base.

The third-person bug-splattering shooter was review bombed close to release thanks to its Epic account requirement, and even a quick glance at the game's most recent Steam reviews shows that many of them - including the positive ones - mention Epic.
