Halo Franchise Switches to Unreal Engine 5, Multiple New Games in the Works | TechRaptor

343 Industries - or, to give it its new name, Halo Studios - has revealed a new outline for what the future of the Halo franchise looks like, and it includes a switch to Unreal Engine 5, internal development process changes, and more.

In an Xbox Wire news post, the studio announces its name change, as well as revealing that Unreal Engine 5 will be used for all future Halo projects. Not only that, but the studio has revealed that "multiple new games" in the Halo series are currently in development.

Studio lead Pierre Hintze describes the advent of Halo Studios and the switch to Unreal Engine 5 as "a new chapter" in the studio's history, pledging to "improve the efficiency of development" and "change the recipe of how we make Halo games".

When it comes to the engine change, COO Elizabeth van Wyck says it's part of wanting the Halo Studios team to "focus on making games" rather than "making the tools and the engines". As a reminder, Halo Infinite, the most recent Halo game, is built on a proprietary engine called Slipspace.
