Sexy Brutale and Rime Developer Tequila Works Cancels Game and Lays Off Staff | TechRaptor

Rime and The Sexy Brutale developer Tequila Works has announced that it's laying off an unspecified number of staff and cancelling an unannounced game.

In a post on LinkedIn, the studio says it's "restructuring" (which is a pretty common refrain when it comes to layoffs), and that this restructuring operation will "impact...a small number of roles at the studio".

Additionally, Tequila says it's made "the decision to cancel an unannounced game", although naturally, the studio doesn't specify exactly what the game was, so we don't know whether it was a sequel to an existing Tequila Works game or a new IP.

Tequila Works closes its brief statement on LinkedIn by saying that it intends to "provide support and guidance to those affected" in what it describes as an "incredibly difficult time".

If you're not familiar with Tequila Works, it's a studio that was founded back in 2009 in Madrid. Its debut game was the side-scrolling zombie cinematic platformer Deadlight, and it followed this up with time loop murder mystery The Sexy Brutale and Ico-style adventure game Rime in 2017.
