Disco Elysium is arguably one of the best games that has never received a proper sequel. It likely never will either, as a mixture of ownership struggles, layoffs, and scandals have pretty much destroyed the team at ZA/UM that worked on the original game. Thankfully, a specific IP being dormant doesn't mean that the talent behind it can't go on to make other things, which is exactly what's happening with a new developer called Longdue Games Studios.
Announced today, this studio is made up of several key creative developers that worked on the original Disco Elysium and its cancelled sequel, and the team has revealed that it's currently working on a spiritual successor that "will continue Disco Elysium’s award-winning legacy". Not only that, but Longdue is also made up of talent from across the industry, drawing on the experience of people that have worked at massive studios like Bungie and Rockstar.
While we don't know too much about Longdue's mystery RPG, the studio did explain a little bit in a press release sent to TheGamer. Longdue describes this spiritual success as a groundbreaking "psychogeographic RPG", as the game's world and characters will shift and change depnding on the decisions...
