When Terry Bogard was revealed for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate back in 2019, it was somewhat of a surprise. The Fatal Fury series had been dormant for around 20 years at that time, leaving players who weren't familiar with Neo Geo fighting games a little bit perplexed as to who the character even was.
Can't wait to 'Siuuu' after a victory.
Speaking to TheGamer at Tokyo Game Show, ahead of Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves' release, series veteran Yasuyuki Oda shared details on how the collaboration came about.
"The request came from Nintendo. I think Sakurai was a fan," Oda-san told me, adding, "Then, all of a sudden, Terry came to Smash."
The decision to allow the star character from the Fatal Fury series to join Super Smash Bros. was a no-brainer for the team at SNK. Detailing how he felt as the collaboration came together, Oda-san said, "I was extremely excited about it. You know, I mean, I couldn't help it, but I felt really happy and fond that something like that was going to happen."
