Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero, the latest game in the Budokai Tenkaichi series of fighting games, has crossed a major sales milestone within just 24 hours on sale, according to publisher Bandai Namco.
In a press release, the publisher confirms that Sparking! Zero has hit three million sales just a day after launching around the world, which is a pretty impressive milestone indeed.
As pointed out by analyst MauroNL on X (formerly Twitter), the game has already surpassed Dragon Ball FighterZ, which took around a week to ship two million units. It's also beaten the likes of Street Fighter 6 (a million in five days) and Mortal Kombat 1 (three million in three months).
So, what's behind this surge in sales for the latest Dragon Ball game? Well, there are likely a number of factors at play. For one thing, this is the first game in the Budokai Tenkaichi series for over fifteen years, so there's a degree of excitement around a long-dormant sub-franchise being revived.
Our local Dragon Ball expert Andrew Stretch also pointed out to me that Sparking! Zero is targeted at a less hardcore demographic when it comes to fighting games.
