Helldivers 2 has been on a rollercoaster over the past few months. After seeing a dramatic fall in the player count because of all the nerfs, it's back in the good graces of the community post a six-week update schedule. Fans were expecting something extra special on Liberty Day, and it seems Arrowhead has delivered.

Melee weapons are something that the community has requested for a long time. The ability to slash or smash a bug when they're up close seems like it would be pretty useful. A melee weapon has finally arrived, but not in the way that you might think. The devs have introduced what is essentially a World War 1 rifle with a bayonet.
The 2124 Constitution rifle is a bolt action rifle that's modelled on a classic Springfield rifle. It requires an arduous reload process after each shot, hardly conducive to fighting a horde of rampaging Terminids or Automatons. While the rate of fire isn't exactly great, the rifle includes a bayonet that can be used to stab enemies in the heat of battle.
