The Sims 4 has received more than 15 million new players over the span of the past 12 months. Since publisher EA's decision to take The Sims 4 down the free-to-play route in 2022, the life simulator's playerbase has grown by leaps and bounds and is showing no signs of stopping.
Since The Sims franchise kicked off in 2000, it has spawned four mainline games along with several different spin-offs and dozens of DLC packs. During this time, the life simulation game series has gone on to rival wildly popular IPs like Mario and Call of Duty in sales, becoming one of the best-selling game franchises ever, with a total of well over 200 million units sold. The latest entry, 2014's The Sims 4, also experienced remarkable sales from the get-go in spite of receiving lukewarm critical reviews at the time of its launch.
