Helldivers 2 is a live service title in pretty much name only. While it has microtransactions and quasi-Battle Passes in Warbonds, it doesn't have seasons, you can earn literally everything in-game, and it has managed to stay away from ridiculous crossovers and collaborations. Almost every live service game these days is going the way of Fortnite, adding characters from outside the IP whether it makes sense or not.
Of course, there's still time for Arrowhead to add Peter Griffin and Thanos to Helldivers 2 if they really wanted to, but it doesn't seem that there's a lot of desire for that kind of thing at the top. Following an interview with VideoGamer about potential crossovers in Helldivers 2, Arrowhead COO Johan Pilestedt clarified via Twitter that Arrowhead would never bombard the game with crossovers as it could "dilute" the game in the process.
Pilestedt reckons that a lot of crossovers could potentially make Helldivers 2 a "not Helldivers" experience, and that Arrowhead would need to do a different take on crossovers in general if it were to dive in properly.
