Gamevice files complaint with US officials about Switch controllers

on | OpenCritic

Late last year, a mobile hardware manufacturer called Gamevice filed a lawsuit against Nintendo claiming that the portable Switch controllers infringed on its patented "Wikipad" designs. While the suit was ultimately withdrawn, Gamevice is back at it again, this time filing a complaint with the US International Trade Commission for the same reasons.

At this point, the legal process is in limbo while waiting for an administrative law judge to be assigned and schedule an "evidentiary hearing". The judge will determine if there is a violation and, if so, the USITC will decide what to do in the future. If found in violation of copyright patents, the commission could order a freeze of imports of the Switch to the US.

We'll be keeping an eye out for developments but these are government and legal systems we're talking about.
