Pokemon Go Players Can Now Take on Team Rocket Leader Giovanni

Pokemon Go players will now have the opportunity to battle Team Rocket's leader: Giovanni. They will also be able to get their hands on a Legendary Shadow Pokemon.

A new Special Research Task set, entitled "Looming in the Shadows," has been unlocked. In order to complete this Special Research, players will have to defeat Team Rocket grunts at occupied PokeStops, receiving Mysterious Components. Once a player has six of these, they will turn into a Rocket Radar. This will allow them to track down Team GO Rocket leaders Cliff, Sierra, and Arlo. After beating these leaders, players are given the chance to catch a Shadow Pokemon. They will also receive 1,000 Stardust and two of the following items: Max Revive, Revive, Max Potion, Unova Stone, and Sinnoh Stone. Once this Special Research is completed, gamers will be able track down Giovanni, and have the opportunity to catch a Shadow Articuno.

For the past few months, players have been able to battle Team Rocket grunts at occupied PokeStops. After defeating these grunts, players are given the opportunity to capture a Shadow Pokemon. These Pokemon have been corrupted, and need to be cleansed. This is done by using 2000 Stardust and two candy. Cleansed Pokemon will learn the move Return once cleansed.

To celebrate the new Special Research, Shiny Meowth and Persian have been added to Pokemon Go. Ekans and Koffing will also spawn more, though their Shiny rates will not be increased. More Team Rocket-related Pokemon will now show up in raids, and Cobalion will still be featured in tier-five raids. These spawn and raid changes will last until November 14th.

Sandshrew, Bellsprout, Magnemite, Porygon, and Wobbuffet will start showing up as Shadow Pokemon. Meowth, Scyther, and Sneasel are disappearing from regular Team Rocket PokeStops, and will only be available in battles with the Team GO Rocket leaders. Defeating Arlo will give players the opportunity to capture a Scyther, Cliff a Meowth, and Sierra a Sneasel.
