From a gameplay standpoint, Helldivers 2 is fairly simple. Check the major order, dive down to a planet, complete the order, and kill every bug or bot along the way. However, the folks at Arrowhead Studios, especially game-master Joel, have ensured that there is an overarching story that conveys the flow of the war on two fronts.
"No pain, no gain" isn't always the best policy. Sometimes, making it easier on the players can increase playtime and activity.
These mini story arcs usually revolve around a particular objective, like liberating Malevalon Creek, liberating a mech-facility, or saving children for no reward. Over the past few weeks, Helldivers have been receiving Major Orders that have been working towards setting up the Democracy Space Station – Super Earth's very own Death Star. However, everytime players think they've done enough, it seems Joel throws out yet another major order.
While any pushback against major orders is considered treason and will be dealt with swiftly by the Ministry of Truth, it seems that Helldivers 2 players are getting tired of the DSS being in its final stages without getting any payoff.
