There is currently very little that we know about Half-Life: Alyx. The game is a complete mystery at the moment, with the only known details being the name. A new report, however, may be giving us our first few details on the upcoming VR title.
Ars Technica has published a new report that gives us a few details for the upcoming Half-Life: Alyx. According to the site, Half-Life: Alyx will be a prequel. The game will take place between Half-Life and Half-Life 2. As the name suggests, players will be taking control of Alyx Vance. It was also revealed that the game has been built from the ground up using the Source 2 engine, the successor to the Source engine that the original Half-Life and Portal titles ran on.
The report also stated that instead of a giving gamers a gun, players will use a new system called "Grabbity Gloves," which can more accurately be called "Magnet Gloves." The gloves allow players to point at items in the distance and pull them close. Ars states that they get the sense that Half-Life Alyx is a showcase for Valve Index's "Knuckles" controllers. Almost all objects in the game have been designed to be touched and handled. Ars' sources also state that the franchise's iconic crowbar will not be in the game. The development team tested the weapon, but eventually scrapped it.
Half-Life Alyx has been in development for some time. Yesterday, it was rumored that the game would be revealed at this year's Game Awards after a supposed interview between Geoff Keighley and Valve developers surfaced. Later in the day, however, Valve made an official announcement that they will be fully revealing Half-Life: Alyx this Thursday. The reveal will take place at 10 am PST. No release window has been given for the upcoming title just yet.
