Helldivers 2 fans have been waiting for something significant to happen for quite a while now, as building and then being killed by a DSS and fighting on the same handful of planets can only be entertaining for so long. Thankfully, prayers were answered during The Game Awards, as the game's Omens of Tyranny update was shadowdropped, bringing the long-rumored Illuminate into the fight.
It's an absolutely gigantic update, full of new weapons, urban environments, new enemies, and even a speedy little buggy, so it's not too surprising that many people are now diving into Helldivers 2 once again to take part in the experience. Even though the update announcement took place late into the night, the game's 24-hour peak player count spiked to a whopping 131,752, the highest since April this year.
Not only that, but it seems as though all the hype around Helldivers 2 is bringing new players in as well. Take a look at Steam's current global top sellers list at the moment, and you'll see that Helldivers 2 is sitting pretty at fourth, with only Path of Exile 2, Counter Strike 2, and the Steam Deck ahead of it.
