Borderlands 4 Is Cutting Back on the Franchise's Toilet Humor

It's hard to remember that the Borderlands franchise once had a somewhat serious tone amidst its over-the-top presentation. While the original game's plot was a MacGuffin, it didn't fully embrace its toilet humor until later installments.

Borderlands 4 is looking to return to that serious tone of past Borderlands games and narrative director Sam Winkler is leading the way. Winkler responded to fans on X, formerly known as Twitter, about the direction of the game's tone.

That's not to say the game will lack humor. Winkler proclaims that Borderlands 4 is Gearbox's most ambitious game to date, and he's been able to work with "some of the funniest people I know as contract writers."

So there you go. There will still be Borderlands humor; just don't expect the toilet humor from the franchise's last entry. Then again, Winkler and Gearbox made jokes on their accounts that may feel right at home, so who knows?
