SA Gamer's Reviews
While the villain ends up being pretty forgettable, Chronopolis gives you an amazing playground as cities and universes collide. Inhumans alongside 2099 Spidey? and Wild West Captain America? Check!
Microsoft's previous attempts at a platforming title have failed many times before. This time they have something with potential in Super Lucky's Tale, but they might need to use some of those gold clovers to balance out the bad luck it currently has.
This could have been the feather in the Switch's cap, showing that a game as graphically demanding as DOOM could be tinkered with to run on a portable platform. It nearly does, but too much is lost in the execution.
Elex is a game with so many missed opportunities. It could've been good, if only it was better executed.
Sonic Forces is not going to rewrite the history books. It's yet another Sonic game that struggles when adding that extra dimension. Even though the level design is some of the best yet, you just can't shake the feeling that it's a bit of fan service until they launch Sonic Mania 2.
Call of Duty WWII has enough modes that one of them will find your fancy, but it feels like something great was missed in favour of playing the same safe song once more. Multiplayer will give this game legs if you don't mind the free-to-play intrusions.
The Frozen Wilds offers a lot more to the overall experience of Horizon Zero Dawn, but it's not quite the stand-alone experience that we want it to be.
Destiny 2 on PC gets the graphics settings and modularity right, but some of the in-game systems just scream console a bit too much. A great sequel that should have been an expansion is finally in reach of those who prefer uncapped frame rates and a mouse in hand.
Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus is an insane amount of fun, and if you enjoyed the first game, then you are in for a real treat!
Rugby 18 is a very disappointing take on the sport in question. It plays as bad as it looks and is yet another knock-on in the world of rugby games.
Moving away from the industrial sausage machine to a bespoke creation oozing with attention to detail, history, love and satisfying combat, Ubisoft is back in the ring, ready to take on other open world contenders.
Super Mario Odyssey winks at you for every Moon you discover. Its sheer brilliance in design and platforming perfection sets it leagues above the competition. If you own a Nintendo Switch you need this game.
The wrestling franchise is bigger than ever and has fans screaming for more. Unfortunately, the game version could easily put you in a sleeper hold.
Gran Turismo Sport will please fans of the series, but it's not going to win over those who have moved on. The team at Polyphony Digital have improved in some areas, but a bare-bones single-player mode that requires an online connection to progress sends it back for another unplanned pit stop.
Fire Emblem Warriors might stand as one of the greatest Musou collaborations to hit the market. Great care was taken in incorporating both gameplay systems to create a thrilling and fun game to play. Yet it is so upsetting that where the combat rises above expectations, the menus felt like an afterthought. While that is annoying, Fire Emblem Warriors is still a hell of a time.
South Park: Fractured But Whole is a hilarious ride that still has me giggling. As a South Park fan, it nails the show's humour and character. While the SRPG gameplay isn't deep, it works on its own and still delivers a laugh. While the common bugs are disappointing, they won't diminish the enjoyment Fractured but Whole is dishing out.
Middle-earth: Shadow of War expands on the unique ideas of its predecessor to varying degrees of success. There are deeper mechanics, the Nemesis system is buffed up and much more prevalent and there are interesting characters that you meet on your adventure. However, it adheres too much on the previous game's mechanics and often feels like a retread. There is a mountain of content to play through and even though much of it can feel the same after a while, the momentum it sustains can keep you engaged. A very solid open-world experience awaits you if you choose to jump in and if you enjoyed the previous game, you will have a lot more of it to play in this iteration.
The Evil Within 2 is a worthy and deserving sequel. You don't often want to visit a horror game, but I want to visit Union and fight alongside Sebastian Castellanos. If this game is sign for future games, it's in safe hands.
If you have the patience to see your farm grow and mingle with the various interesting characters then Story of Seasons: Trio of Towns could be for you.
FIFA 18 plays well on the Nintendo Switch, but it comes at the severe lack of features and content found on other formats.
