Deliver Us The Moon is a spirited, fascinating adventure full of exploration. You can really lose yourself in this world, despite its linearity, and you’ll actually find many of its key moments leave a lasting impression. This is the closest I will ever get to venturing into space, and I’m so very glad I took the trip.
Hyper Parasite has more to it than first appears – the quick and easy movement system via the map is mega convenient, and there’s some really nice sequences and the range of characters keeps things interesting. It’s not the best in class roguelike you’ll find out there, but this hybrid shooter has some unique hooks and takes that offer decent replayability and entertainment throughout.
While I still miss that PlayLink support, UNO Flip is brilliant and essential for any UNO fan. The new ruleset will keep you playing for hours on end and it’s a real nice step up in difficulty for those seeking a new challenge.
This is a truly lovely game that shows us it doesn’t always have to be about guns, explosions, and epic battles to be compelling and interesting. If you’re looking for something a little bit different on Switch, In Other Waters should be right near the top of your list. It looks and plays like nothing else out there right now and that’s both refreshing and exhilarating in of itself.
Streets of Rage 4 is a monumental effort. It’s easy to fall into, compelling enough to keep you interested, and is a more than worthy sequel to one of the most beloved franchises ever made.
I really enjoyed Gears Tactics. Everything just comes together so well and without doubt, it’s one of the surprise packages of 2020. Cast it aside and discredit at your own risk Gears Tactics is a brilliant game that works as well as any other in the genre on almost every level.
There’s a lot of great games vying for your attention right now, but Creature in the Well shouldn’t be confined to the shadows like its namesake.
We touched upon it in our preview last year but while Resident Evil 2 Remake was an exceptional piece of work, and at the time the standard by which all remakes would be judged, I now believe Square have taken hold of the baton and are the ones running with it. Whether this is your first trip to Midgar or a return one, the characters, world, battles, music, and graphics harmoniously unite to deliver a very respectful and incredibly epic swansong for this generation. Square have somehow made one of the greatest games ever made even better and I am now more excited than ever to see what they do with some of my favourite characters in this universe.
Call of Duty doesn’t always get full respect given to its campaigns, but Modern Warfare 2 Remastered ages better than you’d expect, and looks greater than you could have imagined.
We had fun playing Gigantosaurus The Game, especially with the sliding and karting. Fans of the show will love catching up with the gang, listening to the cute rhymes, and exploring the worlds it has to offer. That fun does come with some caveats, though.
Whether you’re a retro enthusiast or a curious historian, this should absolutely be in your library somewhere, Switch or otherwise. Truly, Jedi Academy is one of the all-time great Star Wars titles and this port helps reaffirm that.
It's as compelling as ever and still an incredible time sink all these years later.
Operencia The Stolen Sun just works on so many different levels. I was really taken aback by just how well put together, presented and enjoyable it all is, honestly, you will find no better dungeon crawler on your Switch. Operencia needs a hero and it should definitely be you.
There is a spark and ferocity in Resident Evil 3 that we haven't felt from the previous remakes. We loved every inch of RE3.
The Foundation has some exciting revelations which make it an essential play for Control fans and it really does get us in the mood for the game’s second DLC – AWE – which will hopefully see some form of crossover with Alan Wake. Sadly, though, it’s not all plain sailing, occasionally drawing attention to the worst of Control rather than the best of it.
Exit the Gungeon was a uniquely suited mobile game, finding a perfect home on Apple Arcade. It’s translated nicely to PC and Switch, though it lacks some of the spark which made Enter such a cult classic. Random weapon changes, lengthy reloading of guns, and some overly harsh boss battles which lack the sense of strategy the original game made famous spoil things a little bit.
Put in plain terms, if Beat Saber put VR on the map, then Half Life Alyx is the reason you chart a course. It's everything VR has needed and the return to a classic franchise we've been waiting for.
Just thinking about the game’s rip-roaring heavy metal soundtrack, hordes of enemies, killer arsenal set, and speedy action is making my heart pump. DOOM Eternal takes what you loved about the 2016 reboot, and makes it louder, faster, more graphic, intense and involving.
Persona 5 was already a magnificent RPG, one of the best this generation, but The Royal content has just made it even more essential. All of the additions feel important and necessary and contribute positively to an already fulfilling game. If you haven’t dived into Persona 5 before, you’re in for an incredible treat. It’s the perfect way to fill hours in the day and right now, that sounds just perfect.
There are glitches, technical holdups, and frame rate drops, so it’s by no means perfect, but Ori and the Will of the Whisps is an incredible swansong for this generation of Xbox and reminds you of the type of first-party quality Microsoft has for the generation ahead.
