Checkpoint's Reviews

This is definitely not a bad game, but it is a very poor remaster. The intro including the tutorial is way too long, if you can survive through that ordeal, then comes a pretty decent game, mind you, from the PS2 era. The question you should ask yourself is, do you really want to play this?

The premise of The Westport Independent sure is interesting, sadly, it's execution falls short. I feel here's a bit of history lacking, and no climax whatsoever. With a bit more work, this might've been a great game, such as Papers Please was. It still is an entertaining game given it's short duration, although it's repetitiveness eventually bored me and eventually i no longer cared about which news i filtered and which ones i didn't. Definetly a very interesting concept, with lots of potential, it just wasn't delivered properly.

6 / 10.0 - Massive Chalice
Jun 4, 2015

I really tried to like this game, i couldn't do it. I lost track of how many arrows my hunters fired into nothingness, while having the enemy at an arm's length. Thank god they were not nearsighted. I ran out of heroes many times because i could not generate any offspring via marriage or conquest. The combat system is far too simplistic, having to reveal enemies hidden in fog-of-war and moving characters in the grid system. Luckily, Double Fine's humor is always present in the interactions we have with the chalice and the different genetic traits of our heroes. Far from top tier games like Xcom or Final Fantasy Tactics, which is far far superior, and came out in 1997.

6.5 / 10.0 - Get Even
Jul 7, 2017

A series of very interesting concepts which unfortunately do not come together well, while also attempting to achieve a photorealistic look that is never achieved in full. Nevertheless a touching story about connection, given the reduced price point, it's definitely something you should play if you have nothing else lined up in your backlog.

A huge game with great ideas on how to treat an environment based on a MMO world. Sadly it has many flows. While it’s combat is interesting, the characters are dull and tracking missions ends up in a headache every time. An experience only SAO fans will like.

6.5 / 10.0 - Submerged
Aug 7, 2015

Despite it's cumbersome and repetitive climbing mechanics, gathering objects and reconstructing the story of the characters kept me going on trying to find supplies to heal the wounded Taku. It is a short game, completable in around 3 hours, so i would recommend it if you are into the exploring genre.

This game is a tribute to both the franchises it integrates and the musou gameplay. Koei Tecmo with Omega Games weren't scared to go all out in the exaggeration of this kind of battles. While the story is interesting enough to serve as a string to mix all the characters, the new movesets and special attacks are a blast to just beat thousand of enemies. It´s a shame you can't play multiplayer of any kind.

Mask of Truth is a direct sequel from Mask of Deception. It has many upgrade in combat, apart from that is more of the same from the first game. If you are playing this is only because you liked the first one. A nice game that takes its time and it's rewarding.

7 / 10.0 - Theseus
Aug 2, 2017

Theseus is the first “big” PS VR action game where you see the character with a fixed camera. It's interesting to see a game like this instead of a first person view. This gives the game a whole different perspective from the usual VR game. It's simple but it's charming in innovative way. A good game if you like mythological stories with bizarre plot twists.

7 / 10.0 - Gundam Versus

A good Gundam game. While it is an interesting mecha fighting game, it lacks to offer something else. A must for Gundam fans, but not so appealing for a more casual audience.

Another entry in the Warriors franquice. A nice way to learn about the history of Japan while button mashing our stress away. More of the same for the people who likes the formula, too bad it lacks multiplayer.

Utawarerumono is a good tactic RPG game. However it's main component lies in the story. You could describe the game as a tale with some battles to go through the chapters. Sadly the game is pointed to a very specific target making it unappealing to a general audience.

A strange not-so-good twist for a good saga. Even though Valkyria Revolution aims to be a whole new game, it's hard not to compare it to the original trilogy. Even though it has an interesting story and a nice "hack´n slash" gameplay, the game's pace is slow and gameplay is too easy and not at all strategic.

What if Persona was still developed by the mind behind their first two games. The Caligula Effect is an accurate answer to that question. A philosophical story that will leave you thinking with some cool socialization system. In combat you can predict your enemies movements before issuing commands. Sadly it gets repetitive in every sense. A good game for Vita owners.

7 / 10.0 - Outlast II
May 5, 2017

Outlast II changes its focus on the “clasic” terror formula that worked well in the first game, for a more psychological twisted atmosphere popularized by P.T. While the places you go through and the jump scares are good, the gameplay can´t keep up to make a great experience. An average game that could have been much better with minor changes.

7 / 10.0 - Flywrench
Apr 7, 2017

A new minimalistic game from the creators of Nidhogg. It´s simple and effective, if your played Flappy Bird you´ll know how your character moves. You need to pass through color based barriers that depends on your specific move in a Outland kind of way.

Star Trek Bridge Crew puts you in the seat of a Federation starship where you can be captain or crew. The game shines when playing with other human beings, but fails greatly when playing with AI. An excellent experience for the trekker inside you, if you find a suitable crew to play with.

A game for all the Valkyrie Profile fans starving for something new. At first it seems like a generic RPG, but it grows on one thanks to its polished and charming world.

A nice game if you are looking for puzzle to go. While it doesn’t excel at anything it trains your mind with its Mario Vs Donkey Kong style gameplay.

7 / 10.0 - Necropolis
Oct 25, 2016

It's strange to see tridimensional indie games like this one. It tries to imitate the “Souls” formula with its strategic action based combat and the unrewarding deaths. Something nice and different for rogue-like players.
