75% - Kid Tripp
Aug 2, 2017

I had fun with this release, but I do wish the game had a few more levels thrown into the mix to increase its longevity. Mind you, what's in here is fun, but another 10 level would have made this an even better package. If you're looking for a short and challenging platformer, then Kid Tripp on the Nintendo 3DS will definitely scratch that itch.

80% - SUPERHOT
Aug 1, 2017

SUPERHOT is a great indie release on PS4. The game is highly addictive, and it will keep you playing until the end with its "just one more" draw. It took a handful of gameplay sections for things to "click" for me, but once it did, I couldn't put the controller down until the credits rolled. And once that happens, you'll unlock Endless mode and Challenges, which will test your skills to see if you've really learned everything there is to know about SUPERHOT.

80% - I and Me
Jul 31, 2017

I And ME is a perfect fit for the Nintendo Switch since it's easy to pick up and play and it is very fun on the TV, on the console's handheld mode or in tabletop mode. It's not a very long game, but it's definitely a fun one from start to finish, so be sure to pick it up!

Super Cloudbuilt is a game full of surprises. It features a good story, solid gameplay mechanics and several gameplay modes to enjoy, not to mention a ton of replay value. CoilWorks and Double Eleven have clearly put in a lot of work into this one and, hopefully, the game does well in sales because I can't wait to see what their next game will be.

While I will admit I'm not a fan of speedrunning games, I will say this game will definitely appeal to the speedrunning community because of the challenge, as well as to regular gamers alike. The game is certainly not for everyone, but there is a lot of fun to be had with this fast-paced and action packed release!

Yonder: The Cloud Catcher Chronicles is a beautiful game that is highly addictive and very relaxing. You have complete freedom to do as you wish. The controls are easy to pick up and learn, and you will be jumping from quest to quest with ease. If you ever get lost, you have your trusty compass to lead the way. Yonder is certainly one of the best indie games of the year, and one of the best overall games of the year!

God Wars: Future Past is an incredible game with deep and complex customization options. The hand-drawn retro style graphics ar every well polished and colorful, and the music perfectly fits the game's theme. The story is very addictive, so once you start playing it will be a hard game to put down. A little more freedom to explore would have been awesome, but it's not a dealbreaker. God Wars Future Past is a great tactical RPG and a must-have on PS4.

With the latest update, NBA Playgrounds becomes an enjoyable arcade-style basketball game that is not as arcade-heavy as most of us thought it would be, but that is definitely a much, much better game than it was at launch. With the first massive patch out of the way, the game is probably going to get more patches for the rest of the year to add more players, more courts to play in, and hopefully, even more, improvements to the game's performance and resolution. If you want a basketball game to play at home or on the go, then you can certainly give this one a go.

Deemo: The Last Recital is a solid portable rhythm game with easy to learn but hard to master gameplay mechanics and a ton of content to enjoy. Sure, in essence, this is an enhanced port of a previously mobile-only release, but the transition to the PS Vita has been great for the experience. There's a ton of songs to master, and the available songs are outstanding – and if you complete all of them you have a huge batch of songs up for purchase. If you're a fan of rhythm games, then Deemo: The Last Recital will definitely scratch that itch.

Serial Cleaner is a lot of fun, and its trophies are pretty straightforward, with nothing being missable due to how the game is structured. A bit of patience and a lot of practice is all that is required for eventually making that Platinum yours! If you're looking for a unique experience, then look no further because Serial Cleaner on PlayStation 4 is definitely worth your time and money.

Tokyo Xanadu is a massive game with a lot to offer. I could keep talking a lot more about it, but I think you get a good idea of what you can expect from this PlayStation Vita release. If you're looking for a solid action RPG release for Sony's portable, then I recommend you get Tokyo Xanadu. The game's look is great, and its gameplay is flawless, not to mention it has a ton of content available for you, as well as a shiny Platinum at the end of the road!

Unscored - Steins;Gate 0
Jul 7, 2017

Steins;Gate 0 is a visual novel with a rich and engaging story that will keep you going until the end. It makes great use of its diverse cast of characters as it tells a story that, while sometimes lighthearted, is a bit on the dark side in more than one spot. If you're looking for a great visual novel on PlayStation 4, then Steins;Gate 0 is exactly what you need.

Nex Machina is a great release from Housemarque, giving us a solid twin-stick bullet hell release. I liked the geometric world, exploring each bite-sized area as I dodged plenty of bullets like there was no tomorrow and the soundtrack. All things considered, I still think that Super Stardust Delta (on PlayStation Vita) is still my favorite Housemarque release, but I definitely recommend you play Nex Machina!

Drop It: Block Paradise is a fun puzzler for all ages, where players of all skill levels will get a chance to complete all levels after some trial and error. The game is very colorful, which is always a good thing in this day and age when so many games are gray and brown! If you're a fan of puzzle game and love to create your own puzzles, then I highly recommend you run to download Drop It: Block Paradise!

SmuggleCraft is an interesting but flawed release that could use a patch or two to rebalance things. Controls are a bit too floaty and the AI is too aggressive even on missions that the game itself says are Easy and Legal. If illegal activities with a high difficulty rating are packed with other smugglers out to get your cargo, then easy and legal operations should not have the same actual difficulty during gameplay.

Overall, I'm having fun with the Psych Ward DLC for Prison Architect. The DLC introduces some new elements to a winning formula, making the game feel fresh even a year after release. The only complaint I have is that the DLC has no new trophies for players to try to unlock, but that's the one knock I'd have against an otherwise excellent set of content.

Pixel Heroes: Byte & Magic that will present players with a considerable challenge, especially for trophy hunters. I really dig the game's graphics, and sound and its writing and humor gave me a chuckle here and there as well. If you're into old-school styled games then you should dive into Pixel Heroes: Byte & Magic!

The cartoony graphics are very minimalist, and the character and facial animations are similar to what you'd see in a cartoon. I found the characters to be full of personality, despite it being a 2D game. Last Stitch Goodnight is a fun game on PS4 where combat is a bit easy but the puzzles make it worth your time and money. Sure, it's not the best game on PS4, but it's a nice option to have available!

Final Fantasy XV has a ton of surprises for you. We have been waiting a very long time for this game, but now that the wait is finally over, I can certainly say it was worth it. There are many things to do in a game with gorgeous environments, massive monsters and a ton of side-quests, so I'm sure you're going to love this one.
