75% - STAY
Dec 14, 2018

Stay is certainly a different type of experience, what with its in-game timer and how it affects the wellbeing of Quinn. Taking a break from the game for an extended period of time could prove to be fatal for him, so you'll always need to make sure you check in on him every now and then. Other than the lack of a hint system, I definitely recommend you check this one out!

Azure Reflections definitely ticks all boxes in the bullet hell genre, giving us a very colorful game with very colorful death bullets around every corner. If you're new to the genre, I suggest that you start by playing in the lower difficulty settings so that you can get the hang of things. Those of you who are seasoned experts in the genre can certainly dive into the deep end, entering a Zen state of mind as you dodge hundreds of bullets with little to no room for mistakes.

40% - Gene Rain
Dec 10, 2018

For me, this game was an incoherent mess. I struggled to follow things, which is a shame as I was looking forward to enjoying Gene Rain, but the game's meh gameplay mechanics, with unresponsive controllers, not to mention the convoluted story, those are things that got in the way and kept me from being able to enjoy my time with this one. I can't recommend the game in its current condition.

Youtubers Life OMG Edition is certainly playable. It didn't crash once, but it did bug out several times. If you are a hardcore simulation fan, or if you want a game where you don't really want to think too much about the experience, then go ahead and try this game. But if you are looking for a polished simulation experience, I'm afraid you won't find it here.

I had a lot of fun with TerraTech creating vehicles and putting them to work. What surprised me most though was how I was spreading my time out over all of the different game modes. Typically in games like this one, I will stick to one mode and stay with it. It speaks to the smart game design that I wanted to spend time with all of the modes and made it made me better in the game as I got those experiences. If you like Survival/Building games this one takes a unique spin and is definitely worth checking out and investing some time in.

Passpartout: The Starving Artist is definitely a good catch for those of you looking for a casual and relaxing experience. If you're looking for a game to de-stress with, then this is exactly what you need. It's not a very challenging game, and there's no online or local multiplayer, so it'll probably be best for the “Me Time” section of your gaming collection. If you want a quirky and charming game for the Nintendo Switch in which you take on the role of a starving artist, then this is exactly what you need!

Emerald Shores is a fun and short 2D indie platformer with a twist that sets it apart from other entries in the genre on PS4.

NAIRI: Tower of Shirin is a very fun game that I highly recommend you give a try – it's absolutely worth it. The game has a very cute look and a charming cast that will keep you coming back for more until you make it to the end. Do let me know what you think of NAIRI: Tower of Shirin on Nintendo Switch!

Castle of Heart is a linear but good looking and fun 2.5D action platformer on Nintendo Switch that is worth a try. The game has been improved considerably from the version that was originally released by 7Levels on Nintendo Switch, and while you can certainly feel the Castlevania influence, the game has more to do with Super Castlevania IV than with Symphoni of the Night, so be ready!

If you go at it alone, ROCKETSROCKETSROCKETS is going to feel a bit barebones and one-trick since the AI controlled rockets are not going be controlled by actual humans sitting next to you, trash-talking as they try to destroy you.

Shape of the World is an interesting release that is almost more of an experience and not what you'd expect or are used to playing when you hear the word video game. Some of you might call this a walking simulator, which is not that far off, but the way the game is presented and how the music complements the experience, shifting as new shapes and colors come into play, makes this one a game you have to try.

If you're looking for an old-school infused shoot ‘em up on PlayStation 4 at a budget price, then Monkey King: Master of the Clouds is definitely going to scratch that itch. The game is much easier to play with two players on board since they both share a single total lives count and as long as one of the players remains alive, the other can rejoin the fight after a 10 second countdown, which is different from how you take on this one if you're playing on your own.

Shift Quantum is a fun puzzle platformer with a minimalist black and white look that works since it allows you to focus on the puzzles without being distracted by any unnecessary “oomph.” Other than a few instances in which the framerate dipped when playing in Portable or Tabletop mode, the game runs great and is easy to understand and enjoy.
