Well designed and fun gameplay compensate from some less than ideal control choices. An entertaining romp through the world, and at just the right length. A great value for the price and brings a little luster back to the storied game.

A fantastic game that holds its own against Dark Souls. A brand new setting and new gameplay mechanics add a freshness to the Souls formula. There's a lot to explore and experience including savage death. Right now, it's the best RPG of the current gen.

Great storytelling and presentation as well as engaging and deep combat mechanics. Crafting and itemization leaves a little to be desired but the overall package is a high quality return on investment.

It incorporates so many different elements from so many games that it stands alone as it its own unique sub-genre. CDPR really created a masterpiece with this game, and while the combat can be a bit lacking at times and the controls are just frankly frustrating, they aren't enough of a blemish in the slightest to keep me from recommending this game to anyone.

An easy recommendation for any console-based RPG fan. Better with friends. The game introduces console players to the vast world of MMOs in an easy to grasp and approachable fashion with a ton to see and explore.

8 / 10 - Until Dawn

Considering the number of cliches thrown in, it works surprisingly well, mostly due to exceptionally good voice acting. Bar some attempts at motion controls which don't quite fit, the control scheme is sensible.

Destiny shows improvement with The Taken King, but there is still work to be done before it occupies a place in the canon of key games of this generation.

A potential classic let down by end-game design choices. A compelling take on the zombie apocalypse, supported by good voice acting and interesting locations. Credible, cautious exploration mostly makes up for clunky controls until end-game.

A fun trip through the Forgotten Realms. Not the deepest RPG but there are enough classic elements to give that nostalgic feel. Not every feature is perfect but there's a lot to enjoy.

If this isn't survival horror, nothing is. The story is deep as the ocean in which it is set, and it is well acted throughout. Terrifying but never unfair, controls more than fit for purpose.

9 / 10 - Fallout 4
Nov 28, 2015

This is not the Fallout that I remember, but it is more of the type of game I would play compared to Fallout 3. The much improved gunplay trumps the lack of RPG elements and mild graphical issues within the game. The game has very mixed reviews from player to player, so I'll just say this: If you think of the game as just an RPG Shooter you will love this game. If you think of it as a sequel to Fallout 3, you will be disappointed.

The best DLC for any game this year and a close second to the Artorias expansion as "all time best". The life breathed into the whole game by the free patch combined with the dlc have made a world of difference for players. We are seeing daily events and streams, fightclubs, dungeon runs, weapon guides and lore discussion in our forums, wiki and chats. The new weapons and bosses are outstanding, giving the DLC elements fantastic replayability that was not necessarily present on the base game. Some points discounted for area recycle and a somewhat steep pricepoint for some, but in the end the DLC is worth its price due to the effects it has on the whole experience.

Dragon's Dogma has a lot of flaws, but the gameplay, sound, and exploration (especially in the endgame and optional dungeon) are simply so good. If you're into action RPGs and think you can handle the obvious flaws, you owe it to yourself to experience just how good this distinctively Japanese twist on class based ARPG combat can really be.

Overall, The Following does a great job of not only refining the Dying Light formula, but actively building on it. The area you're given to play in is huge, the new toys are supremely fun and the changes to the enemies make them a significant, but welcome challenge.

9 / 10 - XCOM 2
Feb 15, 2016

And outstanding sequel to an outstanding game. XCOM 2 is everything an XCOM fan could want and more. If you are a fan of turn-based strategy games, this is THE must own title for 2016. A few performance issues and numerous bugs prevent it from getting the score that it truly deserves.

A unique game play experience at a more than fair price. The game runs at a smooth 60fps with no dips and features the same captivating story and gameplay that made the original release a suprise hit.

Inventive, spooky, and compelling, marred only by an overly vocal cast. The story is clever, you will want to see this to the end. Surprisingly deep mechanics, and a different take on managing NPC opinions. Overall a very logical and thoughtful game.

It's a fantastic follow-up to the Freshman UFC title. If you were a fan of the first one, you will love it. The multitude of game modes and presentation all combine to give the game a very professional feel that helps legitimize the sport as a big time player.

A throwaway story with some design issues overall, held together by some fun early gameplay which tails off at the end. Niche fans of the genre may find something to like here, but few others will.
