Despite its many flaws, Darktide's adrenaline-fueled gameplay and grimdark atmosphere are captivating enough to keep you playing for multiple hours on end.

8 / 10 - Phoenix Point
Dec 5, 2019

Phoenix Point does not revolutionize turn-based strategy gameplay, but X-COM fans will feel right at home. If you're been itching for some more X-COM, with a little bit of Civilization mixed in then Phoenix Point is right up your alley. 39.99 USD is about right for this game, and is enough to justify the price tag.

A Plague Tale Innocence does well to explore a plague ridden story and include entertaining game mechanics which makes it unique. Some improvements to certain visuals and mechanics could have made the experience a little smoother, but overall the environments are detailed. The story really shines through such a grim setting along with some memorable ratnado moments. A playthrough could take you 10 hours or more depending on your gameplay strategies and whether you choose to discover all collectibles.

The Sinking City invites all the horror of a lovecraftian tale, with the balance to know more of what is happening in the city of Oakmont, all the while as you struggle to keep your sanity. There are quite a few places to explore, cases to take on, and discovering all its secrets could take you a while. If you're looking for a game that doesn't spoon feed you the answers and are looking to challenge your investigative abilities, this one could be for you. While not perfect visually, with bugs here and there, gameplay is enjoyable and brings a mix of combat and deduction. Definitely worth the price tag.

8 / 10 - Evil West
Nov 28, 2022

Evil West is as explosive and visceral as a action adventure can get. Not only is the gameplay and combat extremely satisfying but it's also rewarding due to various weapons and upgrades you get to use. Evil West is a short and sweet game that fans of the genre should not miss, but it's a bit hard to justify at its current price point given how short the game is.

8 / 10 - The Surge
May 15, 2017

Between Lords of the Fallen and now The Surge, it has become increasingly clear that Deck 13 has both the talent and know-how to make a fantastic RPG, but for some reason keeps falling just short of a homerun. While The Surge is a good game, and definitely one of the best currently available in it's genre, things like lack of character creation, no multiplayer or any multiplayer interaction of any kind, and very little in terms of unique elements that only their game possesses are holding them back from being at the top of their class. The gaming industry has raised the standard of Action RPGs since Lords of the Fallen, and although Deck 13 has raised theirs as well, The Surge is likely to struggle in a market with games like: Nioh, Nier: Automata, Bloodborne, Horizon Zero Dawn and Witcher 3. If you don't already own those games, it will be harder to justify the 59.99 price tag for this game, especially when you can get any of those above for much less. If, however, you have already played those games, then The Surge is the next step in your RPG journey.

7.8 / 10.0 - Blasphemous 2
Aug 23, 2023

Blasphemous 2 is a fun and reward-driven Metroidvania that is sure to please series fans and is a good entry point for any platformer action gamers looking for explorative gameplay. While not groundbreaking in any specific aspect, Blasphemous 2 gives an excellent amount of gameplay for a very good price and is thus well worth its value.

Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty is sure to satisfy Team Ninja and Nioh fans in the combat department, but some aspects are not quite as good as the Nioh franchise. Recommended for console players itching for satisfying action, but a wait for patches for PC players due to performance issues.

Marvel's Midnight Suns is a bit of a mixed bag. On one hand, it has some of the best turn-based combat I've played in modern gaming, and on the other a subpar story and dialogue really make the game drag in places that it shouldn't. A day 1 buy for hardcore turn-based combat lovers, but otherwise a sale for Marvel fans who don't generally play these types of games.

Resident Evil Village invites players back into the fray with a new protagonist to follow. As Rose you will have different way to combat enemies and a ton of puzzles to solve. The expansion is described to be around 4 hours long but you can easily spend more in order to be more thorough and it will also depend on the difficulty mode you play. If you're a fan of the main title, this will give you another fun ride while revisiting some familiar places as well as more character options for the arcade styled Mercenaries Additional Orders. Ideally for those who want to extend their Village experience and see the finale of the Winters' tale.

Gwent: Rogue Mage is a strategy card game, which does not stray too far from Gwent. However, it manages to maintain its own identity as a Roguelite with challenging combat encounters and a progression system that encourages you to take risks to build powerful decks. If you are searching for a title to scratch the itch Slay the Spire has left behind, then Gwent: Rogue Mage is probably the game you are looking for!

Blackwood provides content for those looking for some Oblivion nostalgia but also a new experience when it comes to Oblivion Portals and its tale. While not perfect, Companions shake up combat adding a new way to play solo, but does not do away with the multiplayer aspect of the game. The chapter has a great story to experience with some returning characters that players will be happy to see. If you're a fan of the Elder Scrolls games and looking for a new adventure that ties in with Oblivion, you'll want to pick up this one.

8 / 10 - Yakuza 0
Dec 20, 2017

Everything you want in a Mafia game is there, and there aren't any lootboxes.

The expansion holds roughly 30 plus hours of content, not only providing a solid main quest line but also plenty of side quests, Volcanic Vents, new enemies, and card collectible fun along the way. Exploration is enjoyable as the region is split into different isles which can be travelled to by the boat ports. If you enjoy mystery, political intrigue and diving into dark crypts, this one is for you.

Death's Gambit is a game where developer passion shines through. The free expansion, Afterlife, revamps the game with excellent additions and provides a decent amount of content for the base game's asking price. While not the best Metroidvania you'll ever play, it's one that should certainly have a place on your list.

8 / 10 - Mortal Shell
Aug 17, 2020

Mortal Shell gives players the closest experience to Dark Souls they've had since playing Dark Souls itself. If you're looking for a solid Action RPG that is reasonably priced to hold you over until Elden Ring or Demon's Souls Remake, Mortal Shell should be atop your list. It's not going to blow your mind, but for 30 USD it's hard to ask for much more.
