9 / 10.0 - Cult of the Lamb
Aug 16, 2022

The fact is that even when Cult of the Lamb presents certain issues, it is hardly ever long-lasting or impairs you from enjoying the gameplay loop for a significant amount of time. By bringing together the enjoyable elements of farm sims and action-adventure roguelites and creating an environment where they enrich each other, this game is simply one for the ages. Taking care of others and slaying all those that oppose your way of life never felt this great, and that is the magic of this particular cult that should attract everyone and anyone.

To sum it all up, Marvel’s Midnight Suns is everything a licensed game can be with a sprinkling of Firaxis magic in many areas. The action is bombastic and great to see in action, the top-tier tactical depth and strategic play deliver near-infinite replayability, and the narrative does consistently surprise in the most pleasant of ways. While there are areas that can be further refined, it shouldn’t take too much away from what is a quintessential turn-based affair, and a true superhero fantasy come to life.

Apr 14, 2023

Another year, another triumph, the consistency of the team at San Diego Studio continues to amaze, and MLB The Show 23 is a true gem of a baseball game. No matter which mode you find yourself in, there’s something to marvel at, and with the big addition of the Negro Leagues mode, this is one baseball sim that is heavy on the history lessons and may yet make history itself as well.

There are small issues, which in the grand scheme of things, wouldn’t amount to much when Star Wars Jedi: Survivor remains exemplary in the areas that matter more. Having been introduced to Cal Kestis in 2019, it is fitting that in 2023, we finally get to see the fruits of Respawn’s labour. Here stands a mature Jedi Knight, capable of shouldering the heavy responsibility of not just saving the day, but doing so with flair and proficiency, a similar journey for a sequel that takes centre stage in our galaxy.

9 / 10.0 - Street Fighter 6
Jun 6, 2023

Needless to say, Street Fighter 6 has set a new benchmark for the genre in more ways than one. The new Drive System injects a new sense of depth into an established formula, the roster is more than substantial to keep players busy, and the online netcode allows for true skill to shine through. Other than the slight misstep of the World Tour mode, everything else connects like a well-timed haymaker, and that’s an impressive feat to say the least.

Although 3D adventures like Super Mario Odyssey will continue to be the flagbearer for the franchise, an experience like Super Mario Bros. Wonder is nonetheless gratefully welcome. It is lively and colourful, the animations are pristine and a wonder to watch, and the innovation on display showcases the unwavering and astounding ability of Nintendo to think outside of the box. The 2D platformer still matters, and it has a new champion that players must not miss.

For an indie title, Midnight Fight Express does everything excellently and far exceeds any expectations that we might have going in, and that’s a great thing. As the initial surprise transitions to an ever-entertaining romp, it is clear that the passion and commitment of Dzwinel are what made it possible. And as Babyface is fighting to save the city from the clutches of the many malefactors around, it would indeed be a crime if you didn’t give Midnight Fight Express a go.

While the gameplay may fall into a routine that can grow stale, there is no denying that what Guerrilla Games and Firesprite have achieved is an adventure that will astonish and impress once players put on the PS VR2 headset and wrap their hands around the Sense controllers. It may still be early days, but Horizon Call of the Mountain is an undeniably great start for this new generation of VR gaming.
