8.5 / 10.0 - Far Cry 6
Oct 25, 2021

We like Far Cry 6 as it seems to rest comfortably with its tried-and-trusted formula honed from 5 previous entries in the series. The game offers some great missions, strong characters, and an engaging story of an uprising against an infallible regime. There is enough identity here to make it its own game despite the similarities with other Ubisoft titles. If you like stealth, open-world and action, then Far Cry 6 is well-worth checking out for some no-nonsense gaming 101.

8.5 / 10.0 - Deathloop
Oct 9, 2021

To conclude then. Deathloop is a great concept that knows its own boundaries and sticks to it with a sensible aplomb. Colt is a lovable rogue, against a backdrop of some accomplished gameplay Arkane have honed from their other games. There is not much to dislike about this game aside from a few niggles such as no in-level checkpoints for those crashing to desktop moments. Odd AI behaviour that doesn’t feel out-of-place, but comes across somewhat sloppy. However, niggles become outweighed greatly by an awesome soundtrack and voice acting, alongside great visuals making this a must-play title as we near the end of 2021. Hopefully, Bethesda/Arkane look to develop the IP further.

Little Nightmares II offers an atmospheric romp inside a crazed, surreal world. Part horror, a little stealth with some platform-puzzle solving tossed-in make this a joy to play. It is short in length though, so bear that in mind if you are on a budget and perhaps wait for a sale. Some fiddly controls might get the better of you at times as well, but persevere and you have a very good game well worth checking out.

8.5 / 10.0 - Hitman 3
Jan 26, 2021

To conclude, HITMAN III is a fitting end to the current trilogy and it will be interesting to see where IO take the series moving forwards. With lots to do in this game, plenty of replay value and the chance to create your own missions means it is a solid package.

Black Ops 4, looks great with its excellent designed maps (which all run smoothly on PC by the way). The bots do a decent job of keeping players on their toes, and the zombies provide enough drama to keep you coming back for one more attempt. The entire package works despite the lack of an actual campaign. The bite-sized chunks of modes make up for this offering plentiful replay value. The bonus in all of this is once you feel competent enough to play with others then that option is available as well depending on how good your Internet connection is. Black Ops 4 is worth a punt if you enjoy the game modes on offer. If a more story based antics appeal to you more then it’s a no-brainer this isn’t going to scratch your itch.

Starlink Battle for Atlas is a cool game which adults and younger gamers can enjoy in equal measure. The toy aspect is awesome but not compulsory which is plus point – especially given the cost of extra parts. The core game whilst repetitive in some respects, has enough charms to keep players entertained for many hours. The game has seen a lot of love obviously making for a wonderful space shooter. Great visuals, excellent designs and unrestrained freedom makes for a welcome game. The core target audience should lap this up especially if toys come as part of the deal.

8.5 / 10.0 - SoulCalibur VI
Oct 25, 2018

SoulCalibur VI comes as a welcome addition to the series despite some niggles. Overall, the package is grand and certainly appeals to fans of the franchise. It’s an accessible title for newcomers and generally heaps of fun to play across all its modes. Obviously, the lack of a bigger budget shows here, but what is provided is enough to charm like-minded players. That said, the creation mode whilst limited in comparison to previous offerings is the star of the show. It’s a game in itself to customise the default roster or make your own deranged or beautiful fighter. The fact players share creations online is a massive boon.

The Walking Dead Saints & Sinners is a cool VR game that feels feature complete and is well-worth the asking price. Whether you’re a fan of the TV series it’s based-on or not, this is just a cool game for VR audiences. It boasts excellent production values and despite featuring more “zombies” which is a very common theme in VR games, manages to avoid the usual wave-shooter mechanic we’ve seen so many times before.

8.5 / 10.0 - Hunt: Showdown
Feb 18, 2020

Can we recommend Hunt Showdown then as a solo player game? Yes, totally. Whilst it’s not really story-driven and you have to take your chances with the wider community to make progress. You can still have a lot of fun sneaking around collecting clues and taking out AI controlled characters. If you do get the drop on human adversaries then it’s your choice to risk all and engage or stay hidden in the undergrowth until the danger passes.

For fans, this is a must-have for sure. Anyone on the fence though might do well to give it a try simply because it’s takes itself far less seriously than similar games. The co-op play is a neat inclusion as well. A welcome addition to the series then and a step in the right direction moving forwards.

We played the original Saints Row The Third to death when it released and found the game took us up to the upper echelons of gaming madness but still kept its toes in some warped reality. In this regard, the game is full of character and we love it. The remaster then makes an already cool game even better and for those who love visual elements will especially be pleased at Volition’s efforts here.

The entire game is a throwback to the golden era of T rated shooters that weren’t overly gorey and had lots of jokes to keep the mood light. The world is loaded with entertaining weapons and platforming, crude humor, period satire that isn’t too heavy handed, well designed NPCs, gorgeous sidekicks, and a story that doesn’t try to be taken too seriously.
