MKAU Gaming's Reviews

There are not too many games that can have fart sounds on demand and be so accepted but in true South Park form there are farts but that is the smallest part of the audio in this title. The audio of this game was spot on and felt like I was watching an episode of the TV Show. It was weird that I loved that your character “New Kid” never spoke once but everyone knew what was going on. The fact that the group of fellas would always break the fourth wall of the game, mentioning previous titles and the fact it’s a game was great. If you wanted to find one excuse to play the game the audio would be by far the greatest excuse and is a perfect tribute to animation and cartoon production.

Nixxes Software has taken a massive leap forward in PC porting compared to some PlayStation PC ports released over the years. This game has set a new standard for PC ports, abundant in graphical and performance options, and improvements to the original. Horizon Forbidden West Complete Edition retains the spirit of the PlayStation version and brings an already incredible game to a broader audience on PC; its incredible visuals, exciting gameplay, and technical marvel make it a perfect must-play for fans of story-rich action-adventure games.

9 / 10.0 - Pepper Grinder
Mar 29, 2024

Pepper Grinder proves there’s little more thrilling than drilling for a 2-D platforming adventure. Ahr Ech and Devolver Digital have a real treasure in this one. I recommend it to players who enjoy casual chaos with a charming twist.

Attack of the Karens though full of genres is a perfect example if you put time and precision into the development of a game you will have an exceptional and functional product. The retro aesthetic of visuals and sound make for a perfect trip down memory lane for those who owned a Gameboy. The challenge on offer with the replayability options, and the addictive one-more-run gameplay make Attack of the Karens highly enjoyable.

9 / 10.0 - Unicorn Overlord
Mar 25, 2024

Unicorn Overlord is a brand-new IP that’s already made a big impact, impressing both gamers and critics. With about 50 hours of game time to enjoy, the epic story is guaranteed to leave a lasting impression, but it’s the gameplay that will first pull you in and make sure you stay for the ride. The 2D graphics with highly detailed anime art and smooth animations, along with the orchestral soundtrack and talented voice cast, are a marvel to behold. Unicorn Overlord is an RPG game like no other, and one that should not be overlooked.

9 / 10.0 - Bears in Space
Mar 22, 2024

Bears In Space is a fantastic game. With only three developers working on the game, and with so much attention to detail, there’s no wonder why it took them roughly seven years to release it, and everyone will enjoy this game. Besides the obstructed shooting angles, which I hope they can address, Bears In Space is a very polished game, and I have enjoyed my time playing.

Rise Of The Ronin is a deep insight into the history of Japan from the perspectives of many individuals while also carrying its own parallel narrative of your character. A massive feat in itself. The open world is full of things to do and the combat is strategically paced but also refreshing as you upgrade it with your stances, equipment and skill trees. Any issues I had with this title were very surface-level and didn’t ruin my time at all. Rise Of The Ronin was an intriguing horse in the race of games so far this year, and I lapped up everything it had to give. It might be more subtle from Team Ninja but it’s just as impressive.

9 / 10.0 - Silt

Stilt is a fantastic nod to the classic platformers that have come before. It’s bright, bouncy, fluid, fun, and presents a hefty challenge. I’ve loved my time with this incredible offering and it has certainly bounced its way into my heart. I look forward to seeing you in the PVP arena of Stilt when it springs onto PSVR2 on March 8th 2024.

The developers did a fantastic job with this reimagination of ‘Alone in the Dark’. It was the perfect mixture of puzzles, mystery and a great storyline to keep you enthralled in the title for hours. If you love a great eerie story where you need to think outside of the box then this is a perfect skin-crawling experience for you.

9 / 10.0 - Hi-Fi Rush
Mar 19, 2024

Hi-Fi Rush may not have been successful the first time, but now it’s available to even more players on PlayStation 5. First, it was only accessible via the Xbox Game Pass, but now it’s available to purchase on its own and a physical version will also finally be available thanks to Limited Run Games. The bright and colourful characters, environments, enemies, bosses and more, all playing along to the beat, make this a must-buy for any console it’s available on. Hi-Fi Rush is the perfect game for anyone ready to rock!

Ubisoft is one of the leading brands in video games today with a library of successful franchises but doesn’t seem to realise the gem and piece of gaming history they have in Prince of Persia. While we can’t say “The Prince is back” since it’s not The Prince you’re playing as, finally getting a new Prince of Persia game after 14 years is still a good feeling. Even if it’s another reboot with a different genre, the latest entry in the legendary franchise is still a fun and challenging game, packed with loads of content with over 20 hours of playtime and plenty of replay value. Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is an excellent way to start 2024.

The Cosmic Wheel Sisterhood has a lot of things going for it. For me, it was a mixed bag but ultimately not delivering to my expectations. With beautiful music, pleasant graphics, an interesting story, and my fondness for Abramar it just wasn’t enough. The emotional impact I was preparing myself for never arrived, either that or I’m just dead inside.

While I don’t play too many horror games I did like this one, but being a little impatient getting stuck on some puzzles sort of ruined the emersions and pacing of the game. I felt like when there was urgency that’s when the game truly shines. There are two endings to unlock which makes it replayable which is good as it can take seven to ten hours to get through it. Worth a look if you are a horror fan and at a reasonable price to boot I think give it a shot if you have the chance.

3 / 10.0 - Running Fable
Aug 11, 2023

Running Fable has taken the concept of kart racing games but made it slower and shorter. With children being the targeted audience, it does not really have a difficulty setting and can be finished quickly, but it feels like there is no reward for winning – you just unlock a decorative item, but it’s something everyone gets. If you were able to change the colour of them, atleast you would be able to stand out a bit more.

9 / 10.0 - Atlas Fallen
Aug 10, 2023

Atlas Fallen is an amazing adventure to be tackled, either solo or with a friend, turning the tide of battle and fighting back against the monsters of the land and becoming more powerful with each victory. Honestly, there are not many negatives I can think of with Atlas Fallen. It has been another great release during a great year for games. I have loved every second I have spent exploring the world and all the fights I have encountered. If you are looking for a great action adventure RPG to play, this is highly worth checking out.

It’ll be interesting to see what other beat ’em ups get the modern retro treatment, maybe ‘Golden Axe’ or ‘Final Fight’? For now though, it’s time for the Dragons to rise from the ashes and beat down the streets once again, with hours upon hours of old-school couch co-op fun and soon, online as well. Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise of the Dragons is the long overdue modern classic that fans have been waiting for.

8 / 10.0 - Hello Neighbor 2
Dec 14, 2022

Hello Neighbour 2 offers a great puzzle threat experience with a dark story that will be expanded on with in-game events, and if you buy the Deluxe Edition, you will also have two extra missions set in a high school and the local library, making it the ideal purchase for fans of the franchise. I really enjoyed my time with the game and will be replaying it a lot. It is available now on PC, PS4 & 5, Xbox One, Series S & X, and it is also included on Gamepass and Xbox Cloud Gaming Service.

Need For Speed Unbound doesn’t try to do anything too different, but instead, takes some of the gameplay mechanics that made the last few titles stand out and build upon them, slowly taking the series back to its glory days. If you enjoyed the last few titles and grew up with the older games, you’re going to have a fun time with Need For Speed Unbound.

Knights Of Honour 2: Sovereign is a game that takes patients and a strategic mind, a dash of luck would not go astray either. You will make bad decisions that could just about bring your whole kingdom crumbling to your feet, and if that happens just try again. Just beware however you will need time to play this, either a lot at once or in short intervals over a long time, this isn’t a quick skirmish and the games one this is a long term, put plans in motion and prepare for a long winter type of game. Yes, you can still just play for the fun of it, though with friends would make that easier and more enjoyable. For the hard-core strategist, this game will show you just how good you are and will make anyone who loves that sort of competitive aspect or challenge to their skill giddy with excitement.

10 / 10.0 - Inscryption
Dec 8, 2022

For anyone even remotely interested in puzzles, mystery, and an engrossing deck-building card game, Inscyption is a must-have title for the Nintendo Switch. The very nature that rouge-like games offer re-playability in itself, and it made my last few days with this game hard to put down. I took my Switch with me everywhere I went for a few quick hits before I could immerse myself fully when I got home.
