Marvel MaXimum Collection is a decent example of preservation. The collection contains an interesting selection of games and alternative versions, with welcome life enhancements and a well-constructed gallery. However, it doesn't encapsulate much of Marvel's humble past in gaming and doesn't offer strong reasons to buy beyond X-Men, the Carnage duology, and, if you're a masochist, Silver Surfer. It's a competent collection, but it could offer a little more to pay tribute to its origins.

Super Meat Boy 3D is the return of the king of pain. A worthy sequel to this indie icon. Minor stumbles in its presentation don't tarnish the franchise's reputation, especially with precise controls, the same charisma as always, and the progressive increase in difficulty, making this a great addition to the current platforming game scene.

Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. World Stage is the definitive debut of the series on Nintendo and a good entry point for new fighters. Its precise controls, beautiful graphics, and flawless gameplay are excellent attractions for those looking to expand their horizons on fighting games and even pay respect to one of the most important franchises in gaming. However, glaring errors in respecting its legacy, the absence of single-player modes, many of the real highlights being relegated to DLC, and the complete lack of story may disappoint those fighters who expect a greater understanding of this iconic series. It doesn't need to train for another ten years, but a little more finesse to adapt to modern times could truly revive Virtua Fighter.

Back to the Dawn is a great surprise for the Switch, having initially been released for PC in late 2025 and already gaining a strong fan base. Its intriguing story, charismatic and subversive characters, and complex yet interesting realistic mechanics create a unique and genuine personality for this prison odyssey. Foxes were usually seen as clever but petty, thieving, and mischievous animals. With representatives like Thomas, however, perhaps the reputation of these crimson friends can be rehabilitated, just as the truth about urban corruption may come to light.

Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly Remake is a quite competent re-release, introducing a horror icon to current generations and adapting it without losing its essence. Some hiccups in its performance and slightly outdated gameplay details don't detract from the merits of this remake, playing it safe by bringing what was good and adapting what was necessary.

Jimmy and the Pulsating Mass is an excellent game that draws inspiration from the Mother-like subgenre and manages to forge its own identity. As a fan of the genre, I'm satisfied. The lack of major additions, the absence of a Brazilian Portuguese translation, and its frustrating fighting system might be bothersome at first, but they compensate with a powerful narrative, genuine immersion, and considerable gameplay creativity.

Lil Gator Game: In The Dark is the definitive and well-crafted ending to a charming, unpretentious adventure, naturally expanding on the themes of its predecessor and fitting perfectly as an epilogue to our little friend's growth. Unique new items, friends with fun tasks, beautiful biomes to explore, and the inherent challenge of getting things done as quickly as possible make this a nostalgic adventure through childhood memories and the freedom of being a child with the inevitability of growing up.

Even with its weaker combat compared to its predecessors, the fights remain incredible to watch. Despite the questionable character model changes and the inclusion of a non-grata voice actor in the cast, its story is even more engaging, its characters remain amazing, the exploration is even more immersive, and above all, Yakuza maintains its strong and admirable spirit.

Lil Gator Game's inspirations are obvious, but that doesn't detract from the originality of its presentation. A product made with love and fun, innocent yet reflective, it evokes childhood memories while showcasing the imminent flow of time.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Anniversary Edition is the definitive version of Skyrim. It's undeniable that it's highly recommended for any fan of dragons, sandbox games, and adventure. Even with some glaring flaws, it's an unmissable odyssey that became even more glorious on the Switch 2.

Milano's Odd Job Collection is a charming, forgotten fifth-generation adventure, with little ambition but plenty of charm. A few silly mistakes don't detract from its personality and charm, bringing back nostalgic feelings from a distant era, yet with games whose premises are so similar. Many re-releases are necessary for the preservation and introduction of old IPs to new generations, and I believe this was a great success for HilltopWorks, known for translating other previously exclusive gems to the global market.

System Shock is a competent game and an even stronger remake, polishing the original release with current graphics and reviving an icon for a new generation. However, like SHODAN reviving corpses and disfiguring them into zombie cyborgs, the Switch port falls short in crucial aspects and, overall, fails to remember its origins for preservation purposes. It's a very good game, worthy of its applause, but a little more polish would be appreciated to honor what it created and helped build.

Demonschool is an ambitious title, drawing from peculiar sources (usually indie RPGs straight from Mother/Earthbound), but it manages to have its own personality. Even while paying close attention to the social aspect, one of the most anticipated aspects before the game's release, it performs very well in all aspects. An interesting story, charismatic characters, impeccable art direction, and an addictive combat system make this one of the biggest indie surprises of the year. Even with a few silly mistakes, the time spent at university will be fondly remembered.

Like its predecessors, Yakuza Kiwami 2 is one of my favorite games of the year. While it might disappoint a little with its slightly more focused combat, Kiwami 2 makes up for it with a huge range of possibilities for fun. Whether it's helping Majima in his own minigame like Tower Defense, playing in a urinal arcade, or simply challenging the Dragon of Kansai, this is a worthy evolution of the ballad of Kazuma Kiryu and his eternal quest for a peaceful life.

Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection is an extremely competent product (I dare say even more so than the franchise's latest titles, which currently desperately needs to maintain its relevance). Sure, certain missing titles and some silly performance errors cause some slip-ups during the fight, but in the end, it emerges victorious in this combat.

Shujinkou is one of the most pleasant surprises of the year, teaching a beautiful language without seeming like a product that's only meant to be educational, delivering a rich plot, beautiful visuals, well-done soundtrack and charismatic characters.

Cronos: The New Dawn is one of the best titles in the first wave of Switch 2 third-party games. With an interesting story, haunting immersion and mysteries to solve, it's an excellent entry point for the horror genre on the new Nintendo console.

Bad Cheese is nothing more than a game that simply exists, mediocre and uninteresting, making the experience less memorable than a good retro horror like Alisa or Fear the Spotlight, but simply boring and uncreative, not even worthy of pity. Mickey's first real cartoon was Plane Crazy, a cartoon not as well-remembered as Steamboat Willie, and I assume that will be the fate of Bad Cheese: forgotten in its own empty sarcasm.

Tales of the Shire: A The Lord of The Rings Game brings a unique concept to the Tolkien adaptation library and accomplishes its goal in a shallow manner, putting players in the role of one of the most iconic people of the Middle Earth. However, just like a poorly prepared cake, it presents big inconsistencies that make the end result practically empty and flavorless.

System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster is easily one of the best games I've played this year. I'd always heard great things about it, and this re-release lived up to expectations and beyond. Minor hiccups don't tarnish the reputation of this FPS and horror classic, packed with macabre ambiance, sparse music to create a terrifying atmosphere, a charismatic villain, and sharp gameplay.
