Mindseye was supposed to be an ambitious entry from IO Interactive. What was delivered is a bug-filled, unoptimized, and less-than-desirable mess instead. Almost to no one’s surprise, MindsEye needed a lot more time to polish its core aspects and mechanics.
While dark fantasy open-world RPGs are nothing new, Tainted Grail: Fall of Avalon is an ambitious open-world RPG that backs up its comparisons to the greats and is a worthy newcomer in a saturated market.
Blades of Fire is a fun action-adventure game that boasts its unique features well but unintentionally shows off its many flaws.
Capcom is back at it again by re-releasing eight classic arcade fighting games to current-gen systems along with huge quality-of-life improvements and online matchmaking functionality.
Mandragora: Whispers of the Witch Tree struggles to find its identity with its lackluster combination of both Soulslike and Metroidvania influences.
Once again, SNK has consistently shown their improvement in audiovisual presentation while creating an amazing and engaging sequel that was highly anticipated for more than two decades.
WWE 2K25 is the refinement of every aspect that they’ve already built on. It may as well be the perfected version of their intended design, as not much has changed in the actual gameplay and only adds a couple of new things here and there. Hopefully, the new online game modes are not a sign of things to come since pay-to-win live service game modes have been 2K’s thing in their other sports releases.
A decent remaster of two great JRPGs that is undoubtedly the best way to play both beloved cult classics if you can look past the cracks.
Monster Hunter Wilds improves on everything that the predecessors have to offer and then some; it's everything you want out of a sequel and surpasses the high standard set by the likes of World and Rise.
Undeniably fun and appealing to all ages, Big Helmet Heroes follows in the footsteps of great co-op beat 'em ups that isn't afraid to be fun for the sake of it.
With its final balance patch and the addition of rollback netcode, SEGA is making a clear statement—Virtua Fighter is back, and it’s here to stay.
Dynasty Warriors: Origins is an amazing and much-needed reboot that the franchise needed while keeping its whole identity and foundation intact.
Mario & Luigi: Brothership is a well-presented RPG with engaging combat and gameplay. However, it suffers from poorly paced tutorials and repetitive dialogue that greatly overstays its welcome. In terms of presentation, the game is clearly a cut above with its animations and cinematics, but with the game needing to hold your hand after every segment, it makes for a cruise that you want to get out of than enjoying the ride.
Metal Slug Tactics may be considered a hidden gem given how it hasn’t been advertised enough, despite being a pretty good game. Roguelite games are generally known for their replayability and Metal Slug Tactics is a prime example of that, where it combines roguelite elements and strategy gameplay that’ll have you keep playing for hours. With engaging gameplay, great pixelated visuals, and infinite replayability, the game is an absolute steal for the fun factor at the price it’s offered at.
Albatroz is an interesting game about a journey of self-discovery, meeting new people, and appreciating good views. It has a lot going for it with its adventure survival gameplay, as it’s more engaging than other walking simulators out there. However, don’t expect an actual, realistic hiking experience. It’s really an RPG built around the foundation of a more lighthearted survival game and basic resource management.
Dragon Age: The Veilguard was the result of BioWare learning from their lesson on fully investing into the action in an action RPG. The prior installment tried to balance its old identity of being both a strategy RPG and an action RPG, this time they went full on with the latter design. Veilguard delivers on its action-packed gameplay, enhanced by new mechanics, tighter level design, and a faster pace. Coupled with great audiovisual presentation, a compelling narrative, and so much side content to explore and finish, Dragon Age has definitely made a comeback worthy of your time.
SONIC X SHADOW GENERATIONS is the best of both worlds, where you can re-experience the greatness of Sonic Generations while being able to play a new game focused on Shadow the Hedgehog. It’s a great audiovisual experience as well, as the graphics have been upgraded and feature more of the franchise’s adrenaline-pumping soundtrack. Other than remastering an already great game in its own right, it adds more story content and introduces more gameplay mechanics for our favorite anti-hero, which we definitely need more of.
TMNT Mutants Unleashed is a decent 3D beat ‘em up that has its hits and misses. It has a surprisingly unique progression system that works since it builds up on existing characters while building the world around the main cast. However, its gameplay problems, missed opportunities, and not-so-great voice acting do more harm than good. It’s quite clear that the target audience is for the younger generation similar to the film, and not a lot of people might appreciate its simple gameplay, stylistic and cartoony visuals, and snarky dialogue.
Super Mario Party Jamboree accomplishes its goal in showing new ways for you to enjoy the chaos that is Mario Party. The new mechanics in the main Party Mode introduce more variance to the already unpredictable game. However, some of these additions are a classic case of quantity over quality. The game has over a hundred different mini games included in it, but not all of them are hits. To add to this, the standalone games are other examples of what should’ve been in the main game mode, while some feel unfinished or need to be tweaked a little more.
Blazing Strike is an okay fighting game but is held back by a ton of dated game design choices. Regardless if it was intentional or not, the game just simply lacks content to appeal to potential players. It may have been a great game a few years or even decades ago. Even if the game looks amazing in terms of visuals, players will definitely lose interest quickly since there’s not much to do in the game.
