Aside from showing off its fighters' special techniques in a fantastic way, this arena fighter doesn't do much to incorporate anything new into the genre other than integrating the later arcs of the anime's first season and its film. A greater number of playable characters will please fans of the series, but it's not necessarily what stands out amidst repetitive exploratory scenarios with little to offer.

Improvements like the ability to activate a sort of "trick" to save significant amounts of grinding fit just as well as Dark Magician in Yugi's deck. Players of the Spanish versions of the games should be warned of a few translation errors.

There are no major additions beyond its visual update, maintaining Retro Studios' punishing difficulty level. It's still a challenging platformer that deserves to be completed to the fullest, but loading times and price may be deciding factors for potential buyers.
