Recommended - Aquadine

Aquadine is a very successful debut from SoftColors. The characters—and especially the world—are well developed, and the cast has a lot of charm and humor. At times, however, their impact may weaken slightly due to repetition. The atmospheric and varied musical score more than makes up for this. Still, it is also a rather sad story, dealing with Torrie’s serious illness, fears about the future, and at times even doubts about the value of one’s own existence. Yet friendships and family can provide a great deal of support, especially when the characters are not too convinced that they must handle everything on their own. Overall, I had a great deal of fun accompanying the girls on their journey and watching them grow up.

No Recommendation / Blank - Cozy Grove: New Neighbears
May 11, 2022

After all, the main focus of the DLC is the new bears, which don’t appear until late in the game. It’ll certainly be several months before that point. However, the DLC offers a good opportunity to get back into the game after a long break.

For me, the story is the greatest strength, even though much of it is predictable and the different islands follow similar patterns. But I had great joy in the dialogues and the humor is typical Dragon Quest. Particularly strong is also the duo of Builder and Malroth, who develop a heartwarming, close… friendship.

Because if you're open to it and enjoy carving out your own paths, you owe it to yourself to give this game a chance. It gives back so much — and it's so much more than just walking.

No Recommendation / Blank - Daemon X Machina
Sep 22, 2021

Daemon X Machina stands out thanks to its metal soundtrack and full English voice acting. The world-building is interesting, but often consists of little more than hints. With its characters and numerous factions, there is a great deal of untapped potential to develop the story further.

Overall, art of rally offers a wide variety of tracks and cars that become faster with each group. The game is well suited for beginners but also provides sufficient opportunities to improve oneself.

With its life simulation game *Cozy Grove*, developer Spry Fox has created a little oasis of relaxation, designed to let players explore the stories of ghost bears over a period of several months, investing just half an hour a day.

Until then, however, racing through the various areas and stumbling upon snippets of lore is usually great fun. What’s more, the many different animations and brief comments on the lore you find really bring the player character to life.

For fans of Crypt of the Necrodancer, I can highly recommend Cadence of Hyrule. It might be a bit easier, but the music and rhythm-based combat are as good as ever. If you’re a fan of 2D Zelda and are open to giving it a go, feel free to pick it up or try the demo first. However, you shouldn’t expect a classic Zelda experience, even if the overworld map feels a bit like one. The dungeons in particular – with the exception of the IQ Temple – differ quite significantly from the norm.

I doubt I’d enjoy Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled any more if I knew the characters better.

Drawn to Life: Two Realms may not be the hoped-for sequel. I didn't expect one at all and was surprised by the shifted focus toward a strong puzzle-oriented design

Most of the time, I simply take joy in playing. In the glowing colours, in the constant praise — even when it sometimes feels undeserved. In the energetic synthwave soundtrack. In the risky grabbing of jewels and daring dodge manoeuvres. And, last but not least, in mowing down enemies.

Recommended - Breakpoint
Sep 24, 2020

Breakpoint focuses entirely on a compact game mode, which also works very well except for individual details. Sometimes it takes a bit too long until the first point multipliers or other weapons appear. Apart from the throws, close combat is pursued completely, and since these cannot be used completely freely, they do not torpedo the game principle. For high score hunters, the game offers a lot of fun, even though the top spots are already very difficult to reach.

No Recommendation / Blank - Commander Keen in Keen Dreams
Aug 27, 2020

It’s hard to recommend this game even to Commander Keen fans, as Keen Dreams is quite different from other Keen games anyway and is relatively unknown. Perhaps it’s worth a go for those who really miss the series and have too much money to spare, as you don’t get much in the way of gaming fun for the price. But what about those who’ve never had any experience with Commander Keen? You won’t be missing out on all that much if you give this game a miss, though at least the Definitive Edition offers some advantages over the standard version.
