So don't let the pretty graphics fool you — behind them lies unfortunately just an average game in every respect. Mediocre tech, mediocre gameplay, polished boredom, and precious little variety paired with a non-existent motivation curve will send Death or Treat into obscurity faster than Scary can save Halloween.

I liked Asterigos very much overall; the trailer appealed to me greatly in terms of style, and fortunately, the game did not disappoint. I can really recommend Chorus to anyone who’s even slightly into space games. There are certain spikes in difficulty that had me at my wits’ end, but the abilities gave me various options for tackling the combat differently. It requires quick reactions and you get into a nice flow, as it doesn’t distract from the essentials.

Despite these supposedly numerous negative aspects, the game has a pull that I could only escape from once I’d played through it. If you’re looking for a simple, short game to switch off with, this is the one for you. However, if you’re expecting a complex role-playing game, you’d be better off with the big RPGs. As is so often the case, it depends on your personal situation; for me, the timing was spot on during the stressful period of the COVID-19 pandemic, and I’d devour a potential third instalment just as eagerly as I did the two predecessors.

CrossCode features charming graphics, a brilliant soundtrack with catchy tunes, intuitive controls, fantastic dungeons and witty humour, and has brilliantly brought a classic genre into the modern age. I can recommend CrossCode to anyone who has ever enjoyed games like this, whether in the past or now – you won’t be disappointed.
