The combination of Obsidian and Paradox is the closest thing to a gaming dream team we can imagine and the result of that partnership definitely does not disappoint. Simply put, Tyranny is the finest RPG to launch this year and I love it.
TWD Season 3 may end up being the best thing Telltale have ever done
Full Throttle looks, feels, and plays better than ever.
Puyo Puyo Tetris is the most exciting puzzle package on the market today
Splatoon 2 is the best multiplayer experience Nintendo have ever delivered
Battle Chasers: Nightwar is a true golden age JRPG experience
Golf Story is one of my favourite games in 2017
Okami HD on Switch is the definitive version of a classic
Pac-Man Championship Edition 2 Plus is, by far, the best handheld Pac-Man experience ever designed, but it’s also one of the finest, most fun multiplayer experiences you can find on any market.
Q.U.B.E 2 is a massive statement of intent from Toxic Games with its energy, enthusiasm and overall excellence. They’re in nobodies shadow, now. They’re the ones casting it.
Big Top Breakout is everything I could have wanted from an Escapists DLC, and for a measly £2.49 is an absolutely essential purchase for anyone who already owns the game. Big Top Breakout is Big Time Fun!
The Council is the next evolution of episodic storytelling and you will struggle to look at its competitors the same way after it.
TBS 3 is a truly special game and the perfect send off for this epic saga. The evolution of Stoic as a studio is apparent with a work that is truly timeless. No doubt about it, The Banner Saga is full of many great gaming moments, many of which are in this concluding episode, and they will stay with me for years to come.
Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age is a real treat and should be the game that finally solidifies the reputation of the franchise in the West among the very best RPGs ever made.
Prey: Mooncrash is easily one of the best pieces of content for any game this generation and if you’ve somehow not played Prey yet, there has never been a better time to start.
Bring the Crunch is a brilliant DLC that shocks, startles, and almost always entertains even though it’s very different from its source material. It flows exceedingly well while still managing to offer plenty of optional content should you want it. Slight battle grievances aside, Bring the Crunch is not only a marked improvement on Casa Bonita, but it ensures that the Fractured But Whole Season Pass is now an absolute must-buy.
Yakuza games are always a joy for to review. They iterate just enough each time to differentiate themselves but they always stay true to a core focus and never try to break apart an already winning formula. As it turns out, Yakuza Kiwami 2 is the best of the bunch.
Guacamelee 2 is a stunning, slick platformer and a more than worthy successor to one of last-generation’s finest gems.
The most important and arguably the greatest Civ Expansion of All Time. Just thinking about it now is giving me the itch to dive back in. Wonderful!
To put it simply, if you’ve ever been waiting or wanting to find a reason to play Dead Cells, there has definitely never been a better time. And the absolute best outcome from this content? Konami agree to let Motion Twin make a full new Castlevania game. Because this is definitely something we need in the world, like, yesterday. Even if that never comes to pass, we’ll always have this DLC to remind us how good it could have been and just how at the top of their game these developers truly are.
