Metroid Prime: Federation Force could have been a whole new entry in the Metroid Prime series but unfortunately its fine control system and variety of game modes (including online multiplayer) are not enough to save it from the overall lack of interest of its missions, lacklustre bosses (for the Metroid series, at least) and simply unfitting art style and visual environment.

It's good to see that Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice, while far from the higher thresholds of the classic Sonic games that built the character, improves on its predecessor and presents a very decent gameplay and good ol' high speed action on its levels. It doesn't go all the way with it, though, as its lacklustre visual presentation demonstrates, not to mention the lack of alternative paths but this new chapter is closer to what is expected from a game bearing the name of Sonic.

It can be too predictable at some points and its longer lifespan feels unnecessary at some moments but the overall result is still on par with the high standards that the series has left its players used to.

7 / 10 - 140
Oct 19, 2016

140 takes its minimalist credentials seriously and reduces all elements to the...minimum, emphasizing its excellent controls and level design. The concept is very well executed and this could be a more memorable game if only its content was wider and the price a bit more in a line with what it brings.

Act it Out! A Game of Charades brings the well-known charades game to the Wii U in a format that allows up to eight players at once. While the production is simple and responsive enough to work, it also falls short of taking full advantage of the Wii U's capacities, making its price tag a bit too hefty for this competent but still rather underachieving work.

Ninja Pizza Girl is an interesting blend of platforming, parkour and awareness towards bullying that brings some interesting gameplay mechanics but seems to forget some of its message that ends up being somehow set aside. While the visual environment and soundtrack feel disappointing, not to mention the lack of variety of the levels, this is still an interesting, welcome and fun game.

What Mini Golf Resort has in terms of content lacks in terms of quality. Despite an abundance of courses, holes and items, the gameplay is simply not a match to the amount of content provided and the game's overall poor performance in the audiovisual front, along with some camera flaws and unresponsive interface, make this a difficult experience that requires a lot of improvement before it can be recommended.

Dragon Ball Fusions is loaded with content and high production values wrapped around a unique and fun battle system, making this an essential purchase for fans of the series who will be delighted to spend dozens or even hundreds of hours creating characters and sending them into combat. While its campaign mode can get repetitive for those unfamiliar with the Dragon Ball universe, the combat system alone is certain to keep players focused on its virtues and improving their characters.

If BYE-BYE BOXBOY! is indeed the end of the BOXBOY! series, it's a fitting finale for a trilogy that boasts fun and creative puzzles and plenty of content all over a minimalist presentation. Keeping up with the high standards of its predecessors, this third title has all the reasons to be favoured by the players, adding an excellent value for money on what is being offered.

Nearly ten years after its original appearance, World of Goo shows that it still retains the quality and the gameplay that made it stand out from its competitors. While the controls may not feel as correct as they did with the original Wii game, this is a valuable addition to the Nintendo Swtich catalogue thanks to World of Goo's magnificent audiovisual component, finely developed gameplay involving the laws of physics and large amount of content.

Urban Trial Freestyle 2 plays it safe and improves on several aspects of the original while keeping its main assets intact, such as its amount of content and its addictive gameplay. Adding new online leaderboards and level sharing are certainly very positive ideas but some of the predecessor's flaws are still here and its visual environment could use some improvement.

Astro Duel Deluxe is a good tribute to the space shooter genre of previous generations thanks to its fun gameplay mechanics, a competent audiovisual environment and very fun local multiplayer modes. It would be even better if it included an online multiplayer mode, as well as a bit more in terms of content. As it is, it remains an interesting new addition to the Nintendo Switch catalogue.

5 / 10 - Runbow Pocket
Jul 16, 2017

Runbow Pocket is a New 3DS version of a Wii U game and there is certainly a loss when scaling it down to a handheld format. On the plus side, this handheld version features many fun and challenging levels and the game is rich in content but there is no element that makes it stand out when compared to the original and the lack of a local multiplayer mode is an impediment to a better experience.

8 / 10 - Splatoon 2
Jul 18, 2017

Splatoon 2 fully deserves to be a sequel to its original, as it builds up and improves on several elements that made the first game so memorable. The gameplay mechanics remain fun and unique, the Salmon Mode is outstanding, the improved audiovisual components work wonders and the local multiplayer increases its appeal, Splatoon 2 just needs to work on some of the elements of its online multiplayer component to reach an even higher threshold.

Shantae: Half-Genie Hero is a welcome arrival of the series to a new format. Thanks to an exquisite audiovisual environment, Half-Genie Hero's mechanics and overall charisma make this a fun and enjoyable game that could be better with some more precision in the controls on certain moments and some work on the level design.

9 / 10 - Sonic Mania
Aug 19, 2017

It was so simple, yet so difficult. Sonic Mania succeeds where others did not: it delivers the gameplay experience of the original games with a format made possible by today's technology and an immense wealth of creativity that when put together make this an exquisite Sonic game, a fitting follow up to the 16-bit originals and one to leave a legacy for the future.

7 / 10 - Bulb Boy
Sep 3, 2017

Bulb Boy may not boast the largest content ever seen and while it comes across as too linear and its lifespan feels rather short, it also has several interesting redeeming factors, such as its use of light, a successfully crafted horror atmosphere and an overall well implemented presentation.

Puzzle Adventure Blockle features fun puzzles to play with good ideas at heart. It performs less well on implementing its ideas, as the plot feels out of place and the game does not provide enough incentives for the players to continue their experience. Had these elements been more polished, this could be a more memorable game.

7 / 10 - Ironcast
Oct 9, 2017

Ironcast will attract players who are into carefully selecting their elements before stepping into combat. Thanks to its interesting and well implemented mechanics, this is a game that can easily turn into an addictive experience. It should also be noted that Ironcast could use more variety and that its random components can have a disproportionate weight on the game's difficulty.
