Steve Wright's Reviews
Despite dated mechanics, Sniper Elite V2 looks gorgeous – I preferred 60 frames per second over 4K resolution – and is a must for the collection of fans of the franchise.
While patches may be able to salvage quite a few of its bugs, there are some questionable design decisions that certainly can’t be fixed as easily.
Despite the move to Switch, levels are still designed in a handheld console mentality, meaning you’ll be able to get through a level in a couple minutes flat; as such, BoxBoy remains perfectly suited for pick-up, put-down play.
Mortal Kombat 11 is a great fighter tarnished by Warner Bros.’ willingness to test the limits of customer satisfaction using nickle-and-dime tactics. It’s truly an embarrassment for the franchise and one I hope is truly corrected soon.
This is an unofficial celebration of (nearly) 20 years of Phoenix Wright, and it’s a damn good one at that, even with its failings. You can hardly go wrong with the Granddaddy of the visual novel — a quirky, comical romp into the courtroom.
Despite some design decisions that may be seen as missteps in 2019, Borderlands has aged remarkably well (and in some cases, reminds current developers that they need to reassess how they’ve tackled the looter shooter).
Okay, but not great
If you’re after a cute time rather than a genre-defining one, this’ll work just fine.
While I’d love to see out the whole thing – the main story, not the time sink endgame – coop, it’s how The Division 2 performs as a single-player campaign that may ultimately decide how far I take this fight.
The traditions of survival horror have been modernised, resulting in something that's all-too-familiar yet always manages to keep you on your toes.
Touchdown's beam katana is back and will need to be recharged during combat.
At the end of the day, Darksiders 3 is four years too late and four years behind current game design.
That said, I mightn’t know the songs I’m dancing to, but Ubisoft’s done a wonderful job in picking upbeat, fun songs to dance to regardless. Like last year’s offering, Just Dance 2019 is an inoffensive, exercise conducive title fun alone or in pairs. If you want to boogie, consider it.
11-11 is a unique (and relatively inexpensive) title that’s worth picking up.
So far, Fallout 76 seems like a half-baked, early access entry, equal parts buggy as ugly
Those who’ve played Nintendo’s original Pokémon game(s) will find Let’s Go very familiar, from maps, to the original 151 Kanto Pokémon and even story beats.
There's not a lot to do in Spyro the Dragon
Otherwise, let’s put this one to bed: those who reveled in IO’s last Hitman title will delight in a return to Hitman 2 and those who gave the soft reboot a miss will find a pleasant surprise in this title. It’s hard to go wrong with Hitman 2.
As frustrating as the experience can be, there's a lot of enjoyment — and potential — to actually be had..
Super Mario Party has far more mini-games – and ones of higher quality, too – but it's too time-consuming and tedious to get into them. Couple that with Nintendo's (usual) aggressive hand-holding and the party fizzled out fast.
