Apart from its frightful visuals and clanky controls, Those Who Remain is a somewhat interesting experience. The protagonist is literally asked to shed the light on its past as he plods through the ominous city of Dormont. Quite short though, the journey of Edward might give some cold sweats to the most fearless players.

6 / 10 - The Complex
Mar 31, 2020

The Complex can be enjoyed as a decent B movie, with its poorly written plot and cheap visual effects. The actors do their job though and there is a real replay value, since the choices made thourough the game have real consequences on the conclusion, with nine different endings to get.

Gone pretty unnoticed during its first release on the Wii U back in 2015, the title developped jointly by Atlus and Intelligent Systems was and still is a niche game, mainly aimed at both JRPG and J-pop enthusiasts. This second iteration only provides some new minor features such as costumes and an original dungeon, where the characters dreams can be fulfilled... Quite a program, but still technically flawed, specially on TV mode.

Based on the PSP version of the game, Star Ocean First Departure R is first and foremost adressed to the new players. It has some nice improvements though such as the ability to double the game's speed, new illustrations for the characters and a fully new japanese voice acting by the original cast. However, the high price of the game, combined with the absence of the sequel, The Second Story, is questionable.

As an adaptation of the world-renowed french comics, Ast'rix & Ob'lix XXL3 does quite the job but the levil design in general lacks of inventiveness, especially in co-op mode. The solo mode is not very engaging either because we can't give orders to the second character, not to mention that the AI is very defective.

Far less linear than most of the JRPG at the time, Romancing SaGa 3 might be confusing at first but it's for the benefit of a large leeway for the player. Already pretty in 1995, the graphics of the game are polished in this remaster. It remains feeble though, as it doesn't provide any intersting new features.

Baldur's Gate I & II Enhanced Edition is nothing more than a port of the remasters previously released on PC, clustered in one single cartridge for the Switch. The content is massive, as all the expansions are part of it, but the series deserved a little facelift.

6 / 10 - Oninaki
Sep 2, 2019

With Oninaki, Tokyo RPG Factory finally delivers a game with a true personnality in its art direction and its plot and atmosphere. Alas, the exploration seems dull and the structure of the game in general is too repetitive. Promising maybe, frustrating nonetheless.

From a technical point of view, the work done in this Switch version of The Last Remnant Remastered is remarkable : the visuals are stunning, even on portable mode. Alas, the intricacy of the combat system and the world design in general, inherent in the game itself, are not very engaging.

Among all the episodes released so far, Burning Bridges is the most engaging of all. The plot takes giant steps forward and lift the veil on the mysteries surronding Lord Mortimer. Alas, the technical issues are still there and the scenography lacks rhythm. Let's hope that the last episode will fix this.

The new installment from the polish studio Artifex Mundi is a real treat for the eye. But despite its appealing visuals, My Brother Rabbit fails to deliver a thrilling experience over time. It does not really matter actually as the game can be enjoyed in a few amount of time (three or four hours).

This third episode of The Council contains a large amount of technical issues, among which the many and tedious loading times, making the exploration less pleasant than it should be. Despite all this, the plot is finally moving on and all the choices made by the player seem to have a real impact on the story as a whole.

Those familiar with the LEGO franchise won't be disoriented. LEGO The Incredibles is a fun game to explore and controlling the Pixar characters each with their own abilities can be really enjoyable. Alas, the game is not very challenging, especially when it comes to fight several minions by simply press the same button, and the main adventure is quite short.

It's always a nice feeling to wander across the vast plains and the ominous dungeons of Gransys during a large amount of hours, for the first time on a portable device here. Sadly, the low visuals and the technical issues of the handheld mode are kind of a bummer, the TV experience being as enjoyable as the previous editions of the game.

Developers have put all efforts into making a game that will accompany the players during all summer and even after. Very solid and more profound than it seems, the combat system benefits of dynamic cut scenes during special attacks that make every battle enjoyable. Alas, the first half of the game might seem too bland and the egg searching and hatching concept quite tedious, but there's no doubt that many players will get fun out of it.

With its touching story about this aspiring little writer girl struggling to process her feelings, Lost Words reveals to be a mostly narrative-driven experience. The concept of magical words is quite interesting but in the end, there isn't one obstacle in the player's path able to bring some tension in the game. Yet, the adventure of Izzy and its paper alter ego might well soften the most hardened hearts.

7 / 10 - Twin Mirror
Dec 1, 2020

Relying on great narrative ideas, Twin Mirror turns out to be less compelling on the gameplay side, especially during the investigation sequences. The main plot is not very captivating as the real focus of the game is put on the moral dilemmas of Sam, with the Double and the Mind Palace, manifestations of its mental wanderings.

Yes, Your Grace isn't just your typical kingdom management simulation. The first game of the studio Brave At Night is a very story-driven experience with inspired pixel-art visuals. Alas, it turns pretty bland when it comes to convey the epicness of the battlefield.

Far from being innovative, Project Warlock is a fun shooter combined with some western RPG elements. Not very fortunate during the early years of its project, the young developer Jakub Cislo eventually succeeds to pay hommage to the fast-FPS of the golden era.

Far for being innovative in its form, Potata: Fairy Flower is still a charming title, thanks to its colorful universe and brazen protagonist. Quite short, the game presents some very few challenging puzzles but for the most part, it's an accessible experience.
