Shawn Petraschuk's Reviews

Fearless leader, dashing and debonair Executive Editor, and Co-Founder/Owner of COGconnected. Raised on an NES, came of age on the PS1, turned 'crusty, old grumpy gamer' on the Xbox One and PS4. I play it all from shooters to RPGs all while grumbling about getting owned by 12 year olds. The reflexes just ain't what they used to be ya know?

In the end, I can say that I truly cherished every moment spent playing The Last Guardian but that it came with a heaping dose of forgiveness on things I might not forgive any other game for.

As a 'Definitive Edition' you're getting a buttery smooth gameplay experience, gorgeous graphics and all the extra bells and whistles from DLC to new modes and more but by and large this is the exact same game you played back on your 360 or PS3. The key question to ask yourself is if this new package is worth buying the game again, to which I'd say no it truly isn't. On the other hand if you skipped it last generation is it worth picking up to enjoy this time around? It certainly is.

All in all Disney Infinity 3.0 marks a return to form that was lost from 1.0 to 2.0. It's nostalgic for the parents while being accessible for the young ones and makes for a perfect 'play games with your kids' situation. When you're marketing some of the most loved IPs of all time it's a shame to let them go to waste with poor gameplay and Disney hasn't forgotten this.

As reviewers we're always looking for ways to be critical of a game we play. At times I think it's important to throw that out the window just a little bit and I like to ask myself one simple question; Am I having fun playing this? There is no doubt in my mind that the answer to this question is yes.

If you’ve never had the chance to climb the snowy mountains of Skyrim, face off against its fierce Frost Trolls, or absorb the souls of dead dragons you’ve bested then jumping into Skyrim Special Edition is a no brainer.

Most likely due to the familiarity of the Second Son world I felt comfortable slipping back into it but the pull that kept me playing the first time around just wasn't there the second time. Despite that, however, the story and character of Abigail 'Fetch' Walker still kept me well invested in the game and made it an enjoyable re-visitation.

86 / 100 - LEGO Dimensions

When compared to its compatriots, no matter how well established they already are, it's a clear win for the bricks. Familiar licenses for all ages coupled with equally familiar gameplay and the most powerful toybrand in existence leaves no room for failure. If you're in for a dime though you're likely in for a dollar so prepare to open those wallets (willingly, I'm sure) to truly open up all the game's wonders.

It is rich in depth and despite its often cheery exterior it is a top notch third person action fest that many gamers may have written off. Let me be clear that PvZ offers plenty in regards to tactics and skill and in my opinion I've enjoyed this more than any recent CoD or Battlefield game for its refreshing take on what some could argue is becoming a tired genre.

86 / 100 - The Order: 1886
Feb 19, 2015

The Order: 1886 is not a perfect game by any stretch but it certainly wasn't deserving of the early criticism it received. Now that the release is finally here and you can play through the whole game yourself you'll find that despite some very minor misses in gameplay, Ready at Dawn sets a very high bar in terms of both presentation and story offering up one of the best experiences to date on your PS4.

88 / 100 - Destiny
Sep 15, 2014

If Destiny is judged on the game itself without falling victim to the unreachable expectations placed on it then it stands out as an amazing new IP. Never before has a game managed to merge separate genres quite so successfully and despite some of its flaws it does a lot of things right. Counting on the post launch support from Bungie to expand the game world and fine tune the experience I'd venture that most players will keep coming back with smiles on their faces for a long time to come.

If you're a fan of the Assassin's Creed franchise you will undoubtedly love what Ubisoft has brought to the table with Assassin's Creed Unity. A vibrant playground that you can tackle alone or with friends, it adds just enough new while still staying faithful to what made it successful in the first place. Despite some minor hiccups along the way this is a great first showing for Assassin's Creed exclusively on current generation consoles.

From its great roster of fighters and styles to its fast gameplay and snappy controls MKX has a lot of positives going for it. It's as gruesome and stomach churning as it has ever been and that is exactly why we all love it. Everyone from combo pros to button mashers can have fun with NetherRealm's latest as it stands out as one of the best, if not THE best fighting game, released in years.
