Smelter bears the true marks of a tribute to the 16-bit era, and combines elements of both platforming action and real time strategy with a result that's nothing short of a dignified successor to its sources of inspiration. The interaction between the platforming and the strategy dimensions is very well implemented, and its exploration mechanics work like a charm. This is beyond doubt a work that's worth getting into.

Ys IX: Monstrum Nox is another well crafted game of the Ys series and this latest reincarnation brings forth a great combat as well as exploration that keeps the player interested. Alas, not all is well with this version, and the game's poor performance on any screen creates an unnecessarily frustrating experience when we find ourselves dealing with more than two enemies at a time. Because of how almost ubiquitous this is, it makes it difficult to recommend Ys IX on the Nintendo Switch.

Astalon: Tears of the Earth brings us a Metroidvania-type where the players will be exploring a tower with three different characters, with the need to think about which character to use according to the obstacles. For a simple-looking game, Astalon is amazingly varied when it comes to level design and enemies, which works great in its favour to present us with an adventure that's enjoyable and worthy of our attention.

Eastward is a gorgeous looking adventure game that features a great mechanic of synergy-building between characters during fights and puzzle-solving, and a welcoming combat system. Its level design is mostly simple, but the settings look so beautiful it's worth just to marvel at the art style. While there are some performance issues on a television screen when there's a lot of characters on display at the same time and there's a lot of backtracking involved, Eastward is a very interesting and captivating experience for anyone looking for a good adventure game.

In this new game, the combat system has been slightly tweaked and the downloadable content in the original game is included. Overall, most of the other elements are kept intact and therefore, for longtime fans of the series this is a fun addition to their Nintendo Switch library.

Disaster Report 4: Summer Memories took a long time to reach us - more than nine years, to be exact. That said, it's undeniable that this game features interesting characters, a degree of freedom that's worth the praise and multiple endings that will get players to return to it over and over again. Unfortunately its technical execution is very far from ideal and the heavy, clunky and unstable way it runs will definitely put many players off, which is a shame because Disaster Report 4 gets a lot of things right.

Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy brings back a game of a previous time and in its attempt to recreate the original experience, this conversion goes one step too far - or rather, not far enough. While the online multiplayer is a welcome feature, there's too many elements here that were simply not put up to date with today's standards, and the inadequate controls that were made for a format different than that of the Nintendo Switch further contribute to make this an experience that will hardly convince a lot of players.

Mary Skelter 2 is a dungeon crawling RPG with a somber and engaging plot that will make the players explore harrowing locations and have them face an onslaught of elements in a combat system that is quick and demanding. The game features a ton of mechanics and gameplay elements and on top of that, it even brings its predecessor for free. Nintendo Switch owners who are fans of dungeon crawling RPGs have plenty to look forward here.

Atelier Shallie: Alchemists of the Dusk Sea DX on the Nintendo Switch brings the Dusk Trilogy to an end and it's easily the best and most accessible game of the trio. Even though it requires the players to be familiar with the story of its predecessors, Atelier Shallie's improvements, gameplay mechanics and conclusion to the story help make this a fine ending and a work that will delight its players.

Atelier Escha & Logy: Alchemists of the Sky DX is the second game in the Dusk Trilogy series and it wins its place on the Nintendo Switch thanks to its compelling mix of interesting characters and good balance between the objectives and the margin to fulfill them. Its beginning does feel too slow and the exploration could be more elaborate but overall, the Atelier series continues to show good health on the Nintendo Switch.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons marks the return of the much appreciated series to a Nintendo home console and this new episode is an achievement in every way. With its familiar formula but adding some new mechanics, New Horizons features a fantastic sense of progression, a lot of generosity in its rewards and puts the player in a wonderful environment, all these being major pillars of creating a marvelous experience where we most expect it.

Atelier Ayesha: The Alchemist of Dusk DX begins another trilogy of the Atelier series to the Nintendo Switch and this improved version definitely features a good plot and a very developed game world. Alas, it's also afflicted by some performance issues which should have been solved by now and its last moments fail to captivate but the return of Atelier's Dusk trilogy is off to a good start on the Switch.

Blasphemous on the Nintendo Switch stands out right away with its fantastic pixel art depicting a desolate and inhospitable scenario. But there's a lot more to Blasphemous than its marvelous visual environment, the game has an amazing combat mechanic and its Metroidvania design coupled with platforms provides a world that is well worthy to explore, even after the game's main quest is completed.

Unfortunately, the game doesn't live up to its inspirations, mostly due to its linear nature and to the overall simplistic combat system, which is further harmed by the game's lack of fluidity. One Night Stand is a good indication of what the game is about - indeed, this is a visual novel where the protagonist will have to navigate around the follow-up to an alcohol-fueled one night stand. A rather short and simple game but with plenty of different endings to keep the player interested, One Night Stand disappoints when it comes to its audiovisual environment, which is lacklustre to say the least and has almost nothing to listen to and feels like a too short experience.

Rebel Cops sits on a spot for tactical action games that award (or punish...) their players with a grueling difficulty level and incentives to follow different approaches. If this will delight fans of the genre, those less versed on tactical action will be irredeemably cast aside, as the experience of Rebel Cops will not be their friend, and it's not like the game features a rich and plentiful plot to make up for that.

Children of Morta is packed with things that tick all the right boxes. With its emphasis on building a team and on mechanics that develop the characters' attributions, this roguelike game borrows many elements of an action RPG and also features a fun and simple combat system.
