Dragon Quest Builders 2 improves upon the original in almost every way, but it doesn’t innovate.
Ritual of the Night is one of the best games released so far this year, and even if you don’t love 2D platformers, the excellent exploration elements, movement, and combat are good enough to win anyone over.
Judgment is still an excellent game, despite some of the issues I have. Unfortunately, this is a title that is somewhat held back by its lustrous pedigree, but it has one of the best stories in the franchise, and there’s still a ton of things it has going in its favor.
Even if you’re not huge on dungeon exploration Persona Q2 is a great game. It contains plenty of fanservice and references for fans of the main Persona titles and has a complex and rewarding combat and exploration loop that makes it worth playing even if it’s your first Persona game ever.
As someone who loves adventure and puzzle games, Outer Wilds was a match made in heaven.
I can’t recommend Layers of Fear 2 unless you just absolutely love the genre and have played everything else out there.
Anno 1800 is one of the most fun city-builders I’ve played in a long time.
The story is a slow-burn, but once you start getting into it, you’ll want to finish the ride.
Yoshi’s Crafted World is an excellent Yoshi game. It doesn’t do a lot to break new ground for the series, but it doesn’t have to. It’s a lot of fun, it’s cute, and it’s inviting for gamers of any age.
Unfortunately, the Switch version of Final Fantasy 7 has some things stacked against it when it comes to determining what the ultimate version of the game is.
Sekiro is a great game. Despite my complaints with its boss fights and the elimination of the equipment system Dark Souls was known for, it was a challenging and exciting adventure through Feudal Japan. If you’re a From Software fan, it’s a must-buy game, even with the changes, and it’s a decent place to start even if you’ve never played a From game before.
I really hope Square Enix doesn’t just write Front Mission off after Left Alive. This was a poor attempt at reviving the franchise, and Front Mission deserves better.
I sincerely hope that with some patches the rough edges of Metro Exodus can be worked out. It’s almost there but has just enough technical issues to cause some frustration.
That being said, this is an excellent game and a fantastic Ace Combat game, and I’m glad to see the main series making a return after so many years
Whether you’re a long time fan or a newcomer, Resident Evil 2 remake is an absolutely fantastic game. It’s the best in the series yet and wholly outshined my most optimistic expectations. It doesn’t supersede the original, but it’s an excellent retelling, a wonderful update, and an excellent experience.
I ended up loving the whole ridiculous thing, and it’s a great play, and something different, for anyone who likes RPGs.
X4 Foundations is a game where you choose your fate, and if you’re willing to self-motivate and put in the time, you’ll find an incredible experience waiting for you.
It’s the best single-player Smash to date, and still retains the fantastic couch co-op the series is known for, but only time will tell if online functionality catches up to the rest of the game.
No matter what way you choose to buy, though, both are great and make for an excellent musical addition to your game collection.
