The end result is a fun local multiplayer title. Even with the learning curve and occasionally slow pace, Super Volley Blast was a hit amongst myself, my friends, and my family. I will be spending some time with Super Volley Blast while hotly anticipating the next Super Blast game.

7 / 10.0 - FOX n FORESTS
May 22, 2018

Fox n Forests is still a fun platformer in the end, even if it does hold itself well short of greatness.

7 / 10.0 - Skies Of Fury DX
Apr 24, 2018

Skies of Fury DX will surprise a lot of players, given a seemingly paradoxical situation where the game is simultaneously a mobile port and a polished, satisfying experience. Still, if repetition is an issue for you, then Skies of Fury is one of the worst games your money can buy. The amazing gameplay is the key here: if you enjoy that, and do not mind playing a handful of very similar missions over and over, then Skies of Fury DX will treat you well.

While it is unlikely that Black and White Bushido will ever compel you to turn away from TowerFall for very long, it's great for a quick match every now and then. Just don't pick this up expecting to be blown away.

Overall, Dying Light: Platinum Edition does a lot quite well on Switch. Aside from some technical hiccups and a pretty insignificant narrative, the game shines behind a satisfying gameplay loop with buildings to climb, upgrades to snag, and zombies to smack. With loads of packed-in DLC content and a few multiplayer modes piled on top of a sizable base game, fans of the gameplay loop will find dozens of hours of gratifying zombie-crushing entertainment.

Hot Wheels Unleashed is the Hot Wheels racing game that we have been waiting on for a while. It delivers outside of a few hiccups.

7.5 / 10.0 - Pumpkin Jack
Oct 31, 2020

Pumpkin Jack does not reinvent the wheel and it's far from mechanical perfection, but the game's strong atmosphere and fun platforming have earned it success.

7.5 / 10.0 - Biped
Jul 19, 2020

Those who take a chance on Biped will find a charming, inventive romp that manages a whole lot with its complicated controls, but that very same control scheme, along with its short length and uninspired single-player component, means that it’s not something for everyone.

7.5 / 10.0 - BurgerTime Party

If you want nothing more than modernized BurgerTime, then you’ll be satisfied with this modern edition. If you were hoping for revolutionized BurgerTime, though, you unfortunately won’t find it here.

Minor shortcomings do not hinder StarBlox Inc. At its core, the game is an absolute delight.

7.5 / 10.0 - Paperbound Brawlers
Apr 5, 2019

I greatly enjoyed my time with Paperbound Brawlers, and it will absolutely find a spot in my multiplayer rotation, which is getting harder and harder to do as the eShop lands more and more great titles. It’s no Towerfall, but it’s a solid platform fighter, and its tight gameplay, multiple modes, and unique traits do more than enough to justify a purchase for fans of the genre.

7.5 / 10.0 - Collidalot
Nov 19, 2018

Collidalot is fast, easy to pick up, and hard to put down. The Switch’s local multiplayer catalog is growing rapidly, but Collidalot’s take on bumper-cars-in-the-sky sticks out. Collidalot is cemented as a great complement for games like Towerfall, Ultimate Chicken Horse, and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Grunka Munka has done a great job here, creating another unique, memorable Switch multiplayer title.

7.5 / 10.0 - Retimed
Sep 23, 2018

As far as platform fighters go, Retimed is a great effort. While a few different add-ons could have greatly expanded its shelf-life, I anticipate playing a few rounds here and there for months to come.

7.5 / 10.0 - Nidhogg 2
Dec 3, 2018

Nidhogg 2‘s setbacks make it an inadvisable purchase for anything but local multiplayer. The local multiplayer is fantastic enough to carry this game. Nidhogg 2 succeeds in making a few very simple concepts wonderfully captivating. By combining intuitive controls with a healthy range of tricks and strategies, Nidhogg 2 is the very definition of “Easy to learn, hard to master.” It is a worthy investment for you and your friends, provided they're close by.

Ultimately, Hyperlight Ultimate is a solid entry in its genre. It is colorful, smooth, difficult, and comes packed with replay value. Unfortunately, it often does become repetitive. If you were not already a fan of the genre, this will not be the game that converts you. Should you be looking for a twin-stick shooter, though, Hyperlight Ultimate is an impressive and affordable title that is absolutely worth a look.
