7.8 / 10.0 - Destroy All Humans!
Jul 27, 2020

Playing Destroy All Humans! is like watching an old alien movie in a summer drive-in. The movie may not be a masterpiece, but atmosphere and context play a fundamental role in enjoying the experience. So the not particularly clever mission design and the not-so-inspired mechanics feel a little less annoying when you are playing a game that makes you laugh, does not take itself seriously and does not require a month of vacation to be finished.

The only thing more difficult than making a revolution is to re-make a revolution. SUPERHOT: MIND CONTROL DELETE is still a fun shooter, based on innovative and intriguing ideas, but no longer as effective as they had been in 2016. The roguelite approach certainly gives the game a more conspicuous length, but on the other hand ends up watering down at least part of the mechanics, making the overall experience less incisive than that of the original chapter. After all, as SUPERHOT has always taught, reality is all about perception.

7.5 / 10.0 - The Hand of Glory
Jun 15, 2020

The Hand of Glory overflows with ideas. Not all of them are spot on, but that's a risk you have to take when you want to do something that goes a little out of the classic schemes. The first impact is alienating because everything is not very homogeneous, from the graphics to the continuous change of register in the narration, but in the long run this strange alchemical formula works, thanks to a plot that turns towards decidedly unexpected territories and leaves the player with a giant cliffhanger, raising the hype for the second part of the game.

8.7 / 10.0 - WHAT THE GOLF?
Jun 2, 2020

It's hard to say if What the Golf? is crazier or funnier. This game made by five guys from Denmark rebuild the concept of golf using cows, furniture and gravity in a bunch of mini-levels that never stop to amaze. I really can't remember a game leaving me in awe every 15 seconds, only thanks of the lovable absurdity of the ideas it introduces.

8.3 / 10.0 - VirtuaVerse
May 29, 2020

VirtuaVerse is a lot of things. It is a tribute to old school point&click adventures and, at the same time, a modern take on the genre. It is also an act of love to cyberpunk and his themes. But more than anything else, VirtuaVerse is a great adventure set in a detailed world built on a great pixel graphic, fantastic music and a suggestive atmosphere.

7.5 / 10.0 - Maneater
May 22, 2020

Maneater feels like a b-movie and it's not ashamed of it. The atmosphere is undoubtedly its best value and, if you wanna appreciate it, you must avoid looking too much at the details. The idea on which the game is based, after all, is that fish are smarter than humans, so Maneater rightly treat us accordingly.

7.6 / 10.0 - Wavey The Rocket
May 7, 2020

My mind has not yet been able to fully grasp Wavey's wave movements, but the UpperRoom Games' title is undoubtedly an original and intelligent "platform" that brings to mind the glories of Sonic launched at crazy speed through his articulated and strange levels.

The Procession to Calvary is a blasphemous, cinical and rad point&click adventure set inside a collage of Renaissance paintings. Brilliant dialogues and gorgeous animations are the perfect frame for Joe Richardson's dark humor and his funny homages to the Monty Python.

7 / 10.0 - The Complex
Apr 4, 2020

Mixing games and movies is hard, and The Complex still hasn't found the magic formula. At least, it doesn't take the matter so seriously as Until Dawn, but it just delivers what it promised: 6-8 hours of an interactive movie, set in a direct-to-video sci-fi context. Not a mastepiece, but stil better than the beginning of 2020.

8.5 / 10.0 - Two Point Hospital
Mar 3, 2020

Two Point Hospital is perfect for anyone affected by nostalgia syndrome caused by old Bullfrog games, but it is also suitable for healthy bearers of irony and for all those who are not afraid of getting infected by its amusing frenzy. The port of the control system on Switch is very good, even if the loads are longer and framerate is sometimes unstable – a not so important flaw for the gameplay of Two Point Hospital.

7.8 / 10.0 -
Feb 7, 2020

Ministry of Broadcast has some weaknesses but also a lot of style. So much it feels original even if you can clearly see Pince of Persia, Flashback or other classics inside his shell. All of this wouldn't be possibile without his strong narrarive and his on-point irony: there's nothing better than laughing to force your brain to work.

Luigi's Mansion 3 is the perfect example of the Nintendo way of making games. It comes six years after the last chapter, it doesn't revolutionize the core concepts, but it introduces just the perfect amount of new features to feel fresh. However, the most important thing is that it's funny, damn funny, like watching a Ghostbusters VHS every Sunday morning in your childhood.

8.5 / 10.0 - Untitled Goose Game
Oct 12, 2019

Untitled Goose Game is a joke. A great one. Sure, an evil goose is an excellent starting point, but you need a great awareness of how gags work to make people laugh with it.

There is a lot of fan service in Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Dark Order and that's a smart move from Koei Tecmo and Team Ninja. The game is tailored around the expectations of Marvel's fans, with tons of characters and references to both movies and comics. Sure, cameras are bad and graphic is not so good, but superheroes lovers, the only target of the game, will not care about that too much.

7.6 / 10.0 - Observation
Jun 3, 2019

As a cinematic experience, Observation can easily be considered one of the highest points of the genre. Cool photography and a great reproduction of the space environment supports a solid and unnerving narrative. On the gameplay side, however, something did not work to the end and at least part of the screams I left to wander in space were not one of terror, but of frustration.

7.9 / 10.0 - Shakedown: Hawaii
May 25, 2019

More than a "more of the same", Shakedown Hawaii improves almost everything it takes from Retro City Rampage and introduces new mechanics. Not everything works as it should, but it never lacks ambition. Moreover, his 16bit style is super cool.

Mormo's Curse is a good expansion. The spirit of The Swords of Ditto is still intact, but new modes, enemies and areas offer a satisfying challenge for both old and new players.

7.5 / 10.0 - Unheard
Apr 30, 2019

Sometimes a single good idea is enough to think out of the box and make a simple, but intriguing game. Unheard proves that listening can be as engaging as watching, but it lacks any kind of reward, making patience more valuable than skills.

Mar 15, 2019

It's a bit paradoxical to think that the weakest point of a remake are the newest features, but that's the case with Kirby's Extra Epic Yarn: the new abilities break that perfect balance of the original game. Fortunately, that game is still there and if you want you can appreciate it exactly as it was conceived.
