An astoundingly excellent adventure game with a lot to do and a great deal of area to explore. They even take the game to the physical world and give you the option of holding the ships and weapons in your hands. Change them out to be instantly shown in the game and combine them in any way you choose. This is one of the best games to come out for the Switch yet!

9.5 / 10.0 - Disgaea 1 Complete
Oct 9, 2018

Disgaea 1 Complete is the original Disgaea: Hour of Darkness from the PS2 ported to the Switch so that you can take it with you anywhere you go. It’s one of the best tactical RPG games to hit the market and it will give you many, many hours of satisfying strategical gameplay with great graphics and excellent music. If you haven’t had the pleasure of playing the original or just want to play it again for the first time, it’s a solid purchase you won’t regret.

9.5 / 10.0 - The Talos Principle

EXCELLENT - Amazingly detailed Greek architecture world with intentional glitches, haunting music, and a brilliant story make up for one of the best puzzle games to ever grace the Switch or any system.

EXCELLENT - A nearly perfect mix of action adventure and Metroidvania styling makes this a must have title for those who enjoy the side-scrolling, platform jumping, leveling up games like Castlevania: Symphony of the Night and Metroid. There is a lot of fun to be had even if you don’t like those types of games because the jetpack really does add a layer of fun that you don’t get from a triple jump.

With intense gameplay, insane difficulty choices, and a story where you love to hate the villain, you really can’t go wrong with Wolfenstein II. While clearly not recommended for all ages, the Switch affords you some privacy by playing in handheld mode so you can keep blasting away while your kids’ eyes are glued to the TV watching something a little more appropriate.

Take on the persona of Yuma who contains within him the essence of the Shining Dragon and protect those who believe in freedom and kindness against an evil that would only wish upon others control and depressing conditions. Enjoy the dating simulation, bond with your companions, and dress them up to your heart’s desire – or don’t – the choice is yours. With a great deal of story twists and turns, deeply customizable battle system, and an alternative story, you can’t go wrong with this Action-RPG.

Labyrinth of Refrain: Coven of Dusk is a fun, rich, challenging, and deep dungeon crawling RPG experience. There are a ton of mysteries and anyone who loves to explore and find every nook and cranny of the environment will find many things to enjoy. I do recommend the TV experience over the handheld way to play, however both will give you an immersive and satisfying gaming experience. Do yourself a favor Nippon Ichi fans and pick this one up.

EXCELLENT - Psikyo Shooting Stars Alpha is a fantastic shooting collection. Of course this comes with a slight disclaimer, because if you love shooters this will satiate your desire for many hours on end. If you aren’t a fan of the genre then you should pass this one up just like you have every other shooter in the past. This is fan service at its finest and should be handled as such.

9 / 10 - RPG Maker MV

EXCELLENT - Being able to create your own RPG on the Switch for other players is absolutely in a league of its own with nothing else coming close to this kind of exposure or amount of tools available to realize your dream of becoming a game designer, writer, and developer. The advantages of taking the Switch everywhere you go and “code” at a moment’s notice is a game changer.

8.5 / 10.0 - Smoke and Sacrifice
May 30, 2018

Looking for a survival action-RPG that has an excellent story? You really don’t need to look any further than Smoke and Sacrifice. With eye pleasing graphics, excellent sounds, and an engrossing atmosphere you just can’t go wrong. Will you be so kind as to help Sachi find her child and possibly save her world in the process? If you do, you may just feel like a better version of yourself!

GREAT - A heartwarming tale of a wolf who lies and a prince with curiosity crossed with a little stupidity comes to your Switch with hours of enjoyable gameplay. The Liar Princess and the Blind Prince is a 2D adventure title with puzzle solving aspects that reminded me of Ico from years back and that’s a very good thing.

GREAT - With a nice divided focus between action adventure platform levels and chill farming sequences, you have a great gaming experience that should satisfy your button mashing battle hardened side and fill your calm, peaceful farming simulation needs all in one game.

It’s not often that an excellent puzzle game comes out that is both original and well executed. Road to Ballhalla is a solid title that should give you hours and hours of fun. I do recommend playing with a good set of headphones so you can get into the groove with the excellent soundtrack.

8 / 10.0 - Figment
Jun 29, 2018

Looking for a fun adventure through the complicated mess that a person’s mind can be? Perhaps you enjoy snarky anti-heroes that begrudgingly become the hero they need to be to help those he most likely doesn’t care much about? Take Figment for a ride as it should bring a smile to your face and won’t frustrate you too much with any kind of unnecessary difficulty.

Castle of heart is an action game with some interesting features like a knight who will crumble if not kept fed by life giving red orbs, a good assortment of weapons including crossbows, and an arm that will fall off shortly before you crumble to a pile of lifeless rubble. The graphics are superb and the heavy feeling of a solid stone knight was a nice touch. It’s definitely worth your time if you enjoy this type of game and it should provide you many hours of enjoyment and self-imposed frustration.

8 / 10.0 - Titan Quest
Aug 7, 2018

Great action RPGs are filled with compelling reasons to keep coming back for more, and Titan Quest does just that. The combat is fluid, the exploration is fun, and it fills a niche that until now has been unfilled on the Switch. This one should take most gamers many hours to complete.

GREAT - OlliOlli: Switch Stance is a satisfying and fun skateboarding game that will challenge you to complete tricks to achieve the highest score. String them together by landing on rails and grinding, launching back up to nail another trick, and then land perfectly to increase your score. Landing in a sloppy way or falling off rails and stairs will send you to last place with shame in your eyes.

GREAT - On the Switch it just doesn’t get much better for tactical JRPGs. This is one of the best in the Disgaea series and shouldn’t be missed. In some ways I’m glad I passed it over the first time around because now I get to experience it as a brand new game on the Switch, where I can play it anywhere I like.

8 / 10 - Overpass
Mar 23, 2020

GREAT - Overpass is a blast to play if you enjoy playing Gran Turismo style simulation driving games and less arcade feeling titles. I would associate this one more with Spintires: Mudrunners than any other type of game I have played. If you enjoy ATV riding in real life or have always wanted to give it a go, but can’t, this is the game for you and a very good one at that.
