When you speak about racing titles, often it conjures up talk of high-octane racing across plenty of high-speed tracks, in some pretty impressive vehicles. It’s not often you’ll hear someone describe a racing game as a form of art. Yet, Art of Rally is exactly that!

Side-scrolling beat’em ups are going through a renaissance at the present time. Spearheaded by the nostalgia driven Streets Of Rage 4 there’s been no end of titles released to try and capture the same feelings. The latest of these is Mayhem Brawler. Developed by Hero Concept, Mayhem Brawler takes everything that makes the genre great and adds a supernatural twist.

When it comes to professions that cheeky Nintendo mascot Mario, and his band of chums seem to have done it all. From Kart racing, playing Doctor, and even dabbling with DIY – Mario has been there, done that, and gotten the t-shirt. Now it’s over to golf with the recent release of Mario Golf: Super Rush. But does this all-star sequel head straight to the green? Or does it flounder in the fairway? Come with me as I find out.

I’m a sucker for survival games, so when the opportunity to review The Long Dark came through I jumped at the chance to review it. Playing The Long Dark on the Nintendo Switch isn’t my first experience with the game. I had previously played the game during its early access state on the Xbox One way back in 2017/2018. Back then The Long Dark was just a shell of what it is now and only contained two explorable areas and none of the episodic story.

Tropico 6 is a city builder that places us in charge of a little slice of island life. Do we rule this island as a benevolent leader, one who is kind and caring? Or do we rule with an iron fist as an evil tyrant, one who’s not afraid to get their hands dirty? That’s what makes Tropico 6 appealing. We’re given the tools but not told how to use them.

Catherine: Full Body is to an extent both an expanded and a remake to the 2011 game Catherine. Developed by Atlus, Catherine is a tale of one man and his incredibly complicated love life. It’s a bizarre game filled with Demons, Sheep and a love triangle. While Catherine is a fine game and doesn’t necessarily need a reboot or remake, Catherine: Full Body takes everything from the main game and improves on it in every way.

Death and Taxes is a puzzle game where you play as a newly spawned Grim Reaper. Set in an office building we are given the task of deciding who lives and more importantly who dies, through the admin of quite a lot of paper work. With a new quota of who lives and dies being set each day we can choose to either ignore these or follow them dutifully. However there are consequences…

Looking up at the night sky often brings thoughts of what it would be like to go into space. While humanity has reached out into the cold dark, we’ve not physically been any further than our own Moon. With the first manned mission to Mars still years away, it falls to comic books, television shows, and video games to open this expanse. As such, we often get tales of daring heroes who battle alien threats or craft their own stories as hot-shot pilots.

The genesis of Rainbow Six Extraction started back in 2018. Ubisoft had introduced a limited-time event to their squad-based shooter, Rainbow Six Seige. This game mode, titled ‘Outbreak‘, tasked a cooperative team to take out a wave of aliens, rather than terrorists. With the event being well-received, Ubisoft has developed the formula into a standalone title.

The survival horror genre has seen a bit of a revival over the last couple of years. The success of both Resident Evil 7 and the “REmake” of Resident Evil 2 have highlighted that gamers want the more claustrophobic horrors of the past, rather than a blockbuster schlock-filled epic. One title that aims to put the traditional survival horror aspect back on the map is Heaven Dust 2.

For quite a few years the rally genre was dominated by Codemasters and their Colin McRae series – and later Dirt/Dirt Rally. Throughout every console generation, there’s been a competitor for the rally crown and after a few years of trying, KT Racing finally nailed it last year with WRC 9 (check out our Xbox and Nintendo Switch reviews). This year, the developer is back with WRC 10. Not only does it improve on last year’s already stellar title, it also adds plenty more to the series.

Curse of the Dead Gods is a skill-based roguelike set inside a cruel, dark temple with a seemingly infinite amount of endless rooms and corridors. Death is always just one step behind, and that’s if the constant threat of corruption doesn’t get to you first!

I’m a sucker for Roguelike games. The often simple yet challenging gameplay often leads to many moments of joy to then sheer frustration as you get “schooled” by a particularly nasty boss for the 100’th time. The benefits of Roguelikes is that no matter how many times you die. you grow a little stronger in both character and player as you unlock stats and learn the movements of your foes. Rogue Heroes: Ruins of Tasos takes this formula and sprinkles a world builder on the top. Not only is progress measured by how powerful your hero is, it’s also based on how big your village is.

The Destiny 2 universe has changed forever and it’s all down to the latest expansion Beyond Light. With the release of Beyond Light, the latest expansion to Destiny 2, developer Bungie has not only trimmed down the game’s original content, but the studio has also added a new campaign and a new planet to explore. Whilst Beyond Light may not be as grand in scope as to how Forsaken was, it’s more of a bridge to what comes next.
