Ernest Lin's Reviews

Ernest began his life as a gamer after his parents gave him an obscure floppy disk game titled, "Santa Saves Christmas." After that, he often would play games on his computer programmer mom's (at the time) high-tech Pentium 1 computer. Now a cross-platform gamer, he has owned Sega, Microsoft, Nintendo, and Sony consoles over the years. Metal Gear Solid, Halo, Uncharted, Marathon, and Bioshock are among his favorite franchises. His favorite game genres include action/adventure, shooter, rhythm, and quirky Japanese games. Aside from gaming, Ernest is an avid follower of film, technology, Japanese culture, marketing, and anime. After living across the United States while growing up, traveling became one of his favorite pastimes. Over the years, he’s spent summers in Taiwan and Japan. Before joining PSU in 2012, he wrote for Glitch Gaming and 411mania.com. Ernest is a graduate from the University of Minnesota, where he studied marketing and Japanese.

The Quintessential Quintuplets: Memories of a Quintessential Summer is fun yet forgettable filler for fans that already are invested in the series and can't get enough of the five Nakano sisters. What you get here is an average and easy visual novel with an inconsequential story and unfortunate quality control issues with its English version.

Call of Duty: Vanguard is not the full package fans have and should expect from a franchise that consistently tops the sales charts. There are not enough positives to overcome the fact that the amount and quality of its content is sorely lacking. This is a blast from the past in the worst possible way.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War takes you back to the past, not only in setting and theme, but in its gameplay style and more. It all feels so classic. Between multiplayer, Zombies, and the return of a proper (and surprisingly less-linear) campaign, there is plenty of value for the soldier in all of us.

7.5 / 10.0 - Destiny
Sep 20, 2014

Destiny's faux-MMO approach to shooters is a shallow, dull experience that even hardcore fans may find difficult to stick with except to gaze at its worlds or engage in the entertaining competitive multiplayer.
