While Star Dynasties has a lot to live up to, its unique gameplay features, interesting setting, and wonderful UI make it an excellent addition to the world of Grand Strategy games. There is really no better way to fight a shadow war between a player's own Atreides and a rival Harkonnen than in Star Dynasties.
Star Dynasties is a good mix of ideas, setting, and complexity. The character-driven experience delivers unexpected thrills, weird situations, nice stories, and impressive catastrophes. Players need to invest a little of their imagination to get the best out of the game, but the overall experience is worth it.
Star Dynasties is a Dune-inspired space mod for Crusader Kings III. Nothing more, nothing less. I find it lacking the originality this theme could have had. On the other hand, once you understand the system, you’ll find a great turn-based strategy game that you can enjoy to your heart’s content. Unfortunately, it takes a while to get the hang of it, especially if you don’t have a solid grasp of the language. At the very least, you can marvel at how beautiful humanity’s future in space will look.
