Critic Reviews for Soul Covenant
The spirit of Soul Sacrifice remains, but Thirdverse's successor doesn't quite stick the landing.
Soul Covenant is a relic of the past that should be skipped even for anime diehards and VR enthusiasts.
PSVR2 users have been clamoring for a true JRPG such as what SOUL COVENANT looked to be on the outside. But this is not it. This game’s shine wears off rather quickly with its light RPG elements, focus on unwieldy combat absence of real substance, and variations in the gameplay to keep you going back. After the first hour of gameplay, it feels like you have seen everything it has to offer. Which is not bad, but it could have been so much more.
Soul Covenant made me quite angry, as it failed to do justice to an interesting VR concept, resulting in an underwhelming experience. The script, a crucial element for a JRPG, was particularly lacking. The repetitive gameplay quickly reveals all its cards, but it remains fun and visually impressive. While it could have done more, Soul Covenant can still please those seeking a functional and unpretentious title.
