Critic Reviews for I Can't Escape: Darkness
From its abysmal combat to its shoddy randomly generated dungeon, I really could not stop playing "I Can't Escape: Darkness" fast enough. I'm sure there are some masochists out there that enjoy this sort of game, but I'm certainly not one of them.
All in all, I Can't Escape: Darkness is a very simple, though difficult, game. It's squarely rooted in the past, with the only modern touch being the Steam-based scoreboards.
I Can't Escape: Darkness is vague, contains random and frustrating win states, not scary, and the best part is the secrets and sound design.
I Can't Escape: Darkness certainly does well to create a tense atmosphere with some great pleasing visuals. Unfortunately that doesn't cover up this games flaws. Combat is slow and irritating, exploration becomes tiresome after several attempts and there's never any real motivation to keep players going. This game just seems to be more style over substance.
I Can't Escape wants desperately to be Skyrim, but it looks more like Arena and plays like a game of touch the stove: it's a tedious and painful exercise. Buy only if you're looking to give yourself a weapons-grade migraine.
I Can't Escape: Darkness does play with your anxieties and creates a sense of claustrophobia even though you are perfectly safe in your living room, bedroom or study
